York City Ladies 0 Newcastle United Women 3
A much-improved second-half performance against York City Ladies on Sunday saw Newcastle United Women reach the first round proper of the Vitality Women's FA Cup.
Becky Langley's side struggled to break down the home side in the opening 45 minutes, with long-range efforts from Rachel Lee and Georgia Gibson the closest they came to breaking the deadlock.
But United were markedly better after the break, and opened the scoring in the 63rd minute through teenage substitute Georgina Spraggon, who had only been on the pitch for seven minutes when she got on the end of Lauren Robson's cross.
And in the 70th minute, the Lady Magpies were awarded a penalty which was calmly converted by Lee to make it 2-0.
Lee nearly got herself on the scoresheet again seven minutes later only to see her effort bounce back off a post, but United did get their third with five minutes remaining.
Keira Skelton supplied the cross and Gibson met it with a powerful header to ensure that Langley's lasses are in the hat for the first round draw.
