Newcastle United Women started 2022 off in style, cruising to a crushing 10-0 victory over FC United of Manchester Women at Druid Park in FA Women's National League Division One North

Becky Langley's side immediately imposed themselves on their visitors in the early exchanges, and after just eight minutes the Lady Magpies had a well-deserved lead; Georgia Gibson heading home Lauren Robson's dangerous whipped cross.

Just a minute later, Robson turned goalscorer herself, beating three defenders on the edge of the box before curling an unstoppable strike into the top corner.

Newcastle Women continued to dominate the first half, and despite the visitors having a couple of chances to cause problems of their own, staunch defending from Olivia Watt and Ellen Packham suppressed those efforts.

As half time approached, Robson rewarded the hosts' pressure, exchanging passes with Katie Barker before curling into the top corner.

Just moments later, Robson completed her hat-trick when she broke down the right once more and - somewhat fortuitously - saw her threatening cross loop over the goalkeeper and into the net off the far post.

Langley's side started the second half in the same fashion as the first, and Rachel Lee unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top corner after 48 minutes.

Just two minutes later, the Lady Magpies had their sixth, Bethany Guy rising high from a right-sided free-kick and guiding her header into the far corner.

After 58 minutes, Newcastle Women extended their lead to 7-0 in fortunate circumstances. A mix-up between an FC United of Manchester defender and the goalkeeper saw a back-pass evade the goalkeeper and roll into the back of the net.

Just after the hour mark, Barker got her name on the scoresheet. Following a corner, the ball fell to the number nine, who curled her effort beyond the goalkeeper and into the top left corner.

With 15 minutes to go, Newcastle Women got their ninth goal from an unlikely source, when left-back Keira Skelton arrived at the edge of the box and calmly placed her finish into the bottom corner.

The Lady Magpies continued to search for a tenth in the closing stages, with Becky Ferguson turning well in the box before seeing her thunderous strike crash back off the crossbar.

But with just a minute to go, Barker did make it ten; her deft header sending the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

This emphatic result means that Newcastle United Women cut the gap between themselves and league leaders Liverpool Feds to five points, and Langley's side still have a game in hand on the Merseyside club.
