Newcastle United Women 2 Bradford City Women 1

Becky Langley's side will start in pole position for next weekend's top-of-the-table clash against Liverpool Feds, thanks to a narrow victory over Bradford City Women on Sunday.

Newcastle had to fight until the final whistle against their West Yorkshire visitors, even after Bradford were reduced to ten players, but got the three points they needed at Druid Park.

United opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Georgia Gibson's cross beat goalkeeper Hannah Richards, but Bradford levelled through Hope Knight ten minutes later.

Lauren Robson had hit a post in the first half and at the beginning of the second, Kacie Elson also struck the woodwork.

However, Beth Guy scored the all-important winner from the penalty spot just before the hour-mark, after a foul on Gibson which led to a red card for Harriet Jakeman.

Erin Nelson saw a lob hit the crossbar before Elson clipped a post, while substitute Barker was denied late on by Richards.

The Lady Magpies now turn their attentions to next Friday's Bluefin Sport Insurance Women's Cup final against Wallsend BC Women before second-placed Liverpool Feds travel to Druid Park in FA Women's National League Division One North two days later.
