Chester le Street Town Ladies 3 Newcastle United Women 1
Newcastle United Women were knocked out of the Women's FA Cup by local rivals Chester le Street on Sunday.
The Magpies had dramatically beaten Bolton Wanderers Ladies with a last-minute goal in the previous round to set up this local derby at Moor Park.
But their hopes of a trip to Wembley were effectively ended by three first-half goals from the home side, before Beth Gardener's consolation in the second period.
Chester le Street took the lead in the 15th minute before doubling their advantage three minutes later, and they made it 3-0 in the 28th minute.
Newcastle came out fighting in the second half, with Gardener pulling one back in the 49th minute, but despite their best efforts they couldn't stage a late turnaround.
Becky Langley's side return to league action next Sunday, when they take on Bolton. The fixture has been rearranged after the original match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Kick-off is at 2pm at Atherton Collieries' Kensite Stadium.
