Bolton Wanderers Ladies 0 Newcastle United Women 2
Newcastle United Women beat Bolton Wanderers Ladies for the second time this season on Sunday.
Becky Langley's side won 2-1 when the two sides met in the Women's FA Cup last month, and this game was similarly hard-fought - but again, United came out on top.
Abbie Gilchrist opened the scoring in the 16th minute, firing home from 20 yards for her first goal of the season.
A brilliant save from Grace Donnelly in the 71st minute preserved United's lead, and they made certain of the three points in the 88th minute, when Rebecca Olley was fouled and substitute Beth Gardener converted from the spot.
It was her second goal in two games and her third of the season, making her the team's top scorer so far.
Manager Langley said: "Pure determination from the players. Everyone was singing off the same hymn sheet. So proud of the performance. We have played well in lots of games this season but haven't put the game to bed. I'm so happy we did the job today."
The result takes United up to ninth in FAWNL Division One North. The Lady Magpies are away to Norton & Stockton Ancients Ladies next Sunday. Kick-off at Norton (Teesside) Sports Complex is at 2pm (GMT).
