Hayden speaks ahead of Saints

Isaac Hayden knows that Southampton will be desperate to bounce back after their heavy midweek defeat to Manchester United - but he says Newcastle will be just as determined to get back to winning ways after their own loss on Tuesday night.

While the Saints shipped nine at Old Trafford, the Magpies took an early lead and missed several chances as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Crystal Palace, but Hayden told NUFC TV: "It doesn't matter whether you lose 9-0 or you lose 1-0 - you're always disappointed when you lose.

"It's the same for us. We lost the other day so we want to get a reaction and we want to win the game as well, so it should be a good game."

In an in-depth interview, Hayden praised Southampton for their improvement during Ralph Hasenhüttl's tenure, but United did the double over the Saints last season and the midfielder added: "There's nothing to fear - we're not playing Manchester City on red-hot form, or Liverpool on red-hot form. It's Southampton and the players we've got in the dressing room, we should be looking to beat them.

"It's about having a clear plan in order to do so and then to go out there and execute it to the best of our ability and try and win the game."
