Commentary By @NUFC

Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.

Benitez will be delighted that his side made it three wins in a row, though he will be well aware that they rode their luck again to win this one. Dyche is left frustrated by poor second half finishing. This defeat puts a lot of pressure on the Clarets to get a positive result when they play Crystal Palace next weekend. Newcastle have given themselves breathing room from the bottom three and will take a lot of confidence into their clash with West Ham, who are also on 12 points.

Newcastle climb up to 13th in the Premier League thanks to Mee's own goal and Clark's first half header. Vokes' goal gave Burnley hope, but the hosts could not find the net in the second half. Both teams missed several chances, and either side could have won this one.

96'

FULL-TIME: BURNLEY 1-2 NEWCASTLE UNITED

95'

SO CLOSE! The following free-kick is swung in at Vokes. He leaps above everyone else, but the cross is slightly too high and he cannot get over it. The header goes over the bar.

94'

Yellow card Matt Ritchie

94'

Newcastle break with Hart still in the wrong half. The Magpies fail to get a shot off at the empty goal and Burnley get the ball back.

93'

Hayden gives away a free-kick around 40 yards from goal. Hart is up in the box again. Cork fails to beat the first man.

92'

Barnes takes the resulting corner with Hart in the box. He fails to beat the first man.

92'

Hart lofts the ball into the Newcastle box and Vokes heads towards goal. Newcastle poke it behind for a corner.

90'

There are four minutes of added time.

90'

Substitution Robert Kenedy Nunes do Nascimento Isaac Hayden

88'

Taylor crosses and it is nowhere near any of Burnley's three strikers. Newcastle quickly counter-attack and Kenedy gets into the Burnley box. He is closed down, though, and loses the ball.

86'

Schar leaves the field with the physio and returns to play straight away.

85'

Schar is receiving treatment after a heavy landing following an aerial contest with Barnes. Newcastle are given the free-kick.

83'

Substitution Robbie Brady Ashley Barnes

82'

Substitution Steven Defour Jeff Hendrick

81'

Perez competes well in the air and gets the ball to Joselu again, who spreads play out to Yedlin. The move breaks down with a poor Kenedy cross.

79'

OFF THE POST! Joselu smashes the right post after a lovely passing move from the visitors. Yedlin found Perez, who played a perfect throughball to the substitute. Joselu timed his run beautifully but could not find the net.

77'

Perez does well to hold off Long as the ball drops and wins Newcastle a throw in the Burnley half.

75'

Wood misses another chance after Lennon dinked the ball back into the middle.

73'

Taylor crosses from the left and it goes way over the two strikers. Ritchie's defensive header is poor and goes straight to Brady. The left-sided midfielder snatches at the chance and it goes well wide.

71'

A Burnley free-kick has Newcastle’s defence all over the place again. Brady gets the ball on the edge of the box and chips it into the middle. It eventually falls to Wood, but his effort is saved by Dubravka as he rushes out to close the angle.

71'

Substitution José Salomón Rondón Giménez José Luis Sanmartín Mato

68'

Burnley cause chaos in the Newcastle box. Fernandez hits a clearance straight up in the air after several headers and the ball eventfully drops to Wood about 10 yards from goal. He quickly shoots and it goes straight at Dubravka.

67'

Yedlin crosses to the back post and Long heads it clear, though it only goes as far as Ki. Newcastle attempt another cross and Burnley win the ball back.

65'

Clark's pass through the middle finds Rondon. The striker does well to hold off a challenge from Long and Newcastle build an attack. The visitors lose the ball when Ki attempts an ambitious pass in behind the defence.

63'

Burnley are having a spell of possession yet they are still lacking ideas. The majority of their moves end with a cross from the left flank.

61'

Newcastle mess up in front of goal again! A clever pass from Perez falls towards Ritchie, but Rondon also goes for it and the two get in each other's way. Burnley scramble the ball clear.

60'

Taylor carries the ball down the left wing and is tracked by Kenedy. The Newcastle man blocks the cross and Burnley get a corner.

58'

Vokes leaves the field after his treatment. He immediately returns to the action.

57'

Vokes is down receiving treatment after getting an elbow to the head in an aerial challenge with Clark.

56'

Ritchie drills a pass to Kenedy in a lot space around 30 yards from the Burnley goal. The winger tees himself up for a shot and hits it very hard into the stands.

54'

Cork does brilliantly to hold off Diame and Perez in midfield. He spins away from the challenge and immediately gives the ball away.

53'

Rondon is isolated near the halfway line on the left flank and wins a free-kick. Newcastle have a chance to push up the pitch.

51'

WHAT A MISS! Yedlin makes a surging run with the ball into the box. The ball goes across the face of the Burnley goal and arrives at the feet of Ritchie. It would have been easier to score, but he somehow hits it wide from about three yards.

50'

Rondon slides a pass to Yedlin, who has time to cross from the right. He cuts it back to the striker, but it is intercepted.

48'

Matt Ritchie has registered 14 league assists for Newcastle United since joining the Magpies ahead of 2016-17, more than any other player for the club.

46'

The referee blows his whistle and we are back underway for the second half.

Dyche will be delighted that his side got a goal back before the break, though he will be disappointed with how they played before Vokes found the net. Lowton's delivery has been poor and Brady has barely been in the game. The hosts have looked a bit vulnerable defensively, and Benitez will be frustrated that Kenedy and Perez have been slightly wasteful. Dyche might turn to Vydra for a different option in the final third, while Benitez could bring on Atsu for some extra pace on the break.

Newcastle lead Burnley 2-1 at half-time after an own goal from Mee and an excellent header from Clark. The visitors took a two-goal lead before Burnley fought back through Vokes' long-range header. The Clarets struggled to create anything until the final few minutes of the half when Vokes and Wood caused a lot of problems for Fernandez, Schar and Clark. The match is beautifully poised ahead of the second half.

48'

HALF-TIME: BURNLEY 1-2 NEWCASTLE UNITED

47'

Perez goes down in pain after being caught by Defour's arm. Lowton is unimpressed with the Newcastle man and makes his feelings clear to him.

46'

Burnley are piling the pressure on to end the half. Dubravka makes another save and the hosts get a corner. Brady's delivery is headed clear.

45'

There are two added minutes.

45'

SAVE! Wood knocks the ball down to Vokes who forces a sharp save from Dubravka with a well-struck half volley.

44'

Cork misplaces a pass to Lowton and Perez reacts quickly to intercept. Newcastle look to have a chance to attack but Burnley do well to win the ball back.

42'

Ki and Perez look to start a Newcastle counter-attack but the move is slowed by the Burnley midfield. The attack ends when Schar steps up the pitch and shoots from distance. His shot goes into the stands.

Kenedy receives the ball between Burnley's midfield and defence, but a couple of poor touches see the ball trickle out of play for a Burnley throw.

37'

The corner is taken short to Kenedy on the edge of the box. He shoots with his left foot from about 20 yards and it goes high and wide.

36'

Schar plays another great ball out to Ritchie on the left. Lennon gets back to close Ritchie down and forces a corner.

35'

Burnley go down their left again and Brady squares up Kenedy. He shifts the ball onto his right and delivers a cross. Newcastle win the first header and clear the ball.

33'

Brady tries a pass to the overlapping Taylor, but he gets way too much on it and the ball goes out for a goal kick.

31'

Kenedy attempts a through ball to Yedlin. The winger mishits his pass, though, which makes it easy for Taylor to clear.

29'

Newcastle tap the ball around between their defence and midfield. Diame plays a short pass to Ritchie who is quickly closed down. The visitors get a throw in out on the left flank.

27'

Dyche is waving his arms around frantically on the sideline. Burnley look short of ideas when Newcastle get settled in their defensive shape.

21'

Wood quickly spins on the ball 30 yards from goal and unleashes a fierce shot. Dubravka is caught by surprise and awkwardly saves.

20'

Schar clears the ball up to Rondon, who flicks it to Perez. The attacking midfielder dribbles past one defender out on the left before being tackled in the box.

18'

Ki spreads the play out to Ritchie on the left. He quickly gets the ball out of his feet and crosses, but cannot find a team-mate.

16'

Newcastle press the Burnley defence high and force a poor clearance. The Magpies have the ball back and look comfortable in possession.

14'

This is the earliest Newcastle have scored away from home in the Premier League (3:35) since Yohan Cabaye vs Sunderland in October 2012 (2:10).

12'

Newcastle force Burnley to pass the ball back to their defenders and Rondon puts Long under some brief pressure. The hosts retain the ball, though, and build an attack which ends with a Lowton cross. Wood arrives at the back post and skies it.

10'

Lowton plays a low pass into the box. The ball is not properly controlled by a Burnley player and Newcastle quickly clear.

8'

Newcastle are sitting deep since the goal and Burnley are dominating the possession.

6'

Cork wins the ball in midfield and drives towards the Newcastle box. He squares the ball to Vokes, but the striker slips as he shoots and it bounces well wide.

4'

Own goal Ben Mee

4'

Schar plays a long crossfield ball out to Ritchie on the left. The midfielder plays a short pass to Perez in the box who is tackled after attempting to beat his man.

2'

Lennon plays a smart reverse pass to Lowton down the right on the overlap. He attempts a cross and it goes out of play for a goal kick.

The referee blows his whistle and we are underway!

The teams are in the tunnel and kick-off is just a few minutes away.

Newcastle are winless in their last five top-flight matches against Burnley (D3 L2), last beating them at this level in December 1975.

20:19

Benitez makes only one change to the side that beat Bournemouth as Clark replaces Paul Dummett, who picked up an injury on international duty, at left-back. Jamaal Lascelles, Karl Darlow, Yoshinori Muto and Jonjo Shelvey all miss out.

Dyche makes just the one change with Brady replacing Johann Gudmundsson. Defour got a knock in the draw away to Leicester but is fit enough to start, while Gibson only makes the bench meaning Long continues alongside Mee at the back.

SUBS: Joselu, Freddy Woodman, Javier Manquillo, Isaac Hayden, Jacob Murphy, Christian Atsu, Jonjo Shelvey.

NEWCASTLE UNITED (4-4-1-1): Martin Dubravka; DeAndre Yedlin, Fabian Schar, Federico Fernandez, Ciaran Clark; Matt Ritchie, Mohamed Diame, Ki Sung-yueng, Kenedy; Ayoze Perez, Salomon Rondon.

SUBS: Ashley Barnes, Ashley Westwood, Matej Vydra, Phil Bardsley, Tom Heaton, Ben Gibson, Jeff Hendrick.

BURNLEY (4-4-2): Joe Hart; Matthew Lowton, Kevin Long, Ben Mee, Charlie Taylor; Aaron Lennon, Jack Cork, Steven Defour, Robbie Brady; Chris Wood, Sam Vokes.

Let’s take a look at the teams for tonight’s clash, starting with the hosts.

Tonight's kick off has been delayed by 30 minutes due to a medical emergency in the players' tunnel. Neither team or their staff are affected. The person involved has been taken to hospital in a conscious state.

Newcastle have recovered well from a very difficult start to win their last two. The Magpies rode their luck a bit in both victories, but Rafael Benitez will be very relieved to finally have pulled his side out of the bottom three. The visitors can climb up to 13th with victory tonight.

Burnley come into this evening’s clash having taken just one point from their last four Premier League matches. The Clarets are sitting 17th and are level on points with tonight’s visitors. Sean Dyche’s side have really struggled defensively this term but will take confidence from their clean sheet against Leicester last time out.

Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League match between Burnley and Newcastle United.
