Commentary By @NUFC
NEWCASTLE PENALTY! Phil Bardsley with a poor challenge on Kenedy, the winger gets past his down the left wing after he plays a one-two with Merino, he gets to the byline and the Burnley right-back dives into the challenge, blatantly bringing Kenedy down and the referee has no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot. No complaints from the Burnley players.
STAT: Burnley could lose their opening five competitive matches of a calendar year for the first time since 1932, when they were beaten in their opening six fixtures.
Yellow card DeAndre Yedlin
Burnley are certainly on top here now, much to the displeasure of the home supporters. Newcastle are giving away a lot of free-kicks in their own half which is allowing the visitors to pump the ball into the box, straight to the head of Barnes.
This is much better from Burnley, they are keeping Newcastle deep inside the own half and putting pressure high on the home side. Barnes is causing plenty of problems for the Newcastle defence.
GOAL DISALLOWED! Barnes runs away to celebrate what he believes to be the opening goal of the game, but the referee already has blown the whistle for offside. It was an excellent finish by Barnes, he comfortably slotted the ball underneath Darlow from close range, but he had just strayed offside.
Head-to-head: The two sides only other previous Premier League encounter at St James' Park ended in a 3-3 draw in January 2015. So far we haven't had too many chances for that many goals tonight.
That Newcastle chance seems to have livened up the game now as Burnley have their first attack of the game. Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson lifts a cross into the box which Karl Darlow claims just as Barnes crashes into him, looking to get on the end of that ball.
OFF THE POST! Kenedy with almost the perfect arrival here! The winger took a couple of touches to take it past his markers on the edge of the box, he then fires a powerful shot at goal, it takes a deflection off Kevin Long, before smashing against the post. The rebound appears to fall perfectly to Christian Atsu in penalty area, who was unmarked and onside, but he can't get his feet sorted quickly enough and his weak effort is fired straight at Nick Pope. By far the best chance of the game.
It is set to be a busy evening for all teams tonight with the transfer deadline looming, and the Magpies have had a few outgoings, with Jamie Sterry, Jack Colback and Roando Aarons all departing St James' Park today.
STAT: Newcastle are winless in seven Premier League home games, losing five of them. It's their longest run without a victory in the competition since April 2009.
The game is lacking quality at the moment, a lot of sideways and backwards passes by both teams, not much pace to the game so far. Newcastle arguably looking the stronger side, with Burnley sitting deep and inviting the hosts to play the ball in front of them.
Slow start to the game so far, neither side really threatening to open the scoring with both teams enjoying possession in the middle of the pitch and not looking close to carving open a chance in the final third.
Despite their poor recent form, Burnley haven't been conceding many goals, but they are struggling to get the ball in the back of their opponents net, with Chris Wood currently out injured, so Ashley Barnes once again leads the line.
Newcastle are enjoying an early spell of possession here, they are passing the ball nicely around the pitch, with new signing Kenedy already getting on the ball down the left wing and looking to cause Burnley early problems. An early goal for the hosts will be vital tonight, especially to ease the nerves of the home crowd.
Burnley won October's reverse fixture 1-0, thanks to a Jeff Hendrick goal, and could complete a top-flight league double against Newcastle for the first time since 1960-61.

TEAM NEWS: Newcastle have made eight changes from their FA Cup defeat against Chelsea. Only Karl Darlow, Jamal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark keep their places in the starting line-up. Meanwhile Burnley make two changes, with Kevin Long coming in for James Tarkowski and Ashley Westwood replacing Steven Defour.
BURNLEY SUBS: Lindegaard, Lowton, Nkoudou, Vokes, Ulvestad, Wells, Lennon.
BURNLEY (4-5-1): Pope (GK); Bardsley, Long, Mee (C), Taylor; Gundmundsson, Cork, Westwood, Hendrick, Arfield; Barnes.
NEWCASTLE SUBS: Woodman, Murphy, Shelvey, Gayle, Ritchie, Hayden, Manquillo.
NEWCASTLE (4-4-1-1): Darlow (GK); Yedlin, Lascelles (C), Clark, Dummett; Atsu, Merino, Diame, Kenedy; Perez; Joselu.
The team news is in, here is how the two sides will line-up this evening...
The Clarets also have a potential debutant of their own tonight, with Aaron Lennon is in line to appear for Sean Dyche's side, after his move from Everton earlier this month. However, they are expected to be without Steven Defour and James Tarkowski due to injury.
Burnley are winless from their last seven Premier League games; however, they currently sit eighth in the table after a terrific first half of the season and they have picked up 34 points so far. Their last victory coming against Stoke City back in mid-December.
Chelsea loanee Kenedy could make his Magpies debut tonight against Burnley. DeAndre Yedlin, Paul Dummett and Mo Diame are all set to be recalled, having been rested for Newcastle's FA Cup defeat against Chelsea at the weekend.
Newcastle are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference, they sit 15th in the table and are one of four teams all on 23 points, so picking up three points at home is vital.
