Commentary By @NUFC

That is all for tonight folks, thanks for joining us. Goobye!

Tonight's match was far from a classic but Everton get the job done in the end to move up to eighth in the Premier League table. Both sides are not in any danger of going down and that showed on occasions.

Walcott's goal is the difference between the two sides as Everton end their poor recent run under coach Allardyce. Newcastle's four-match winning streak comes to an end but they showed some fight in the second half.

FULL-TIME - Everton 1-0 Newcastle.

CHANCE - Murphy curls in a left-footed cross towards the far post but Coleman somehow gets across to head clear. Superb defending at the death!!

Kenedy's drilled pass is cleared by Calvert-Lewin and that is another set piece that has come to nothing so far tonight.

77'

CHANCE - Ritchie calls rank for the free-kick and he fails to find the top corner with his left foot.

67'

Gayle's introduction has given Newcastle a real lift with his movement and aggression troubling Everton already.

Goal Theo Walcott

49'

CHANCE - Kenedy plays in Perez but the playmaker struggles to adjust his body and he can only produce a tame shot from inside the box. Another big opportunity wasted!

We're back underway at Goodison Park...

Tonight's encounter is Benitez's 100th match in charge of the Magpies. Newcastle have won 48 of his previous 99 and then they will need to kick on to make that 49.

Jagielka has wasted the best chance of the evening but Allardyce will be pleased to see his side trying to set the tempo. Join us for more coverage in around 15 minutes time...

The referee calls time on the first 45 minutes and the two sets of players may need the break to regroup and improve. Newcastle have come with a defensive mindset, while Everton are trying to come forward but with a real lack of quality.

HALF-TIME Everton 0-0 Newcastle.

45'

Walcott latches onto a Rooney pass but gets caught in two minds and he shoots well wide of Dubravka's goal.

43'

Bolasie whips in a powerful cross but it somehow misses every other blue shirt inside the box and Yedlin gets a slight touch to help Newcastle break away.

40'

Less than five minutes to go at Goodison Park before the first half comes to a close. The contest has yet to burst into life and those in attendance will not be pleased with what they have seen so far.

38'

Pickford coughs up possession and Slimani gets ready to try and pounce but Perez's pass into him is too heavy and the England goalkeeper is able to recover.

35'

CHANCE - Jagielka peels away from his marker at the far post but his right-footed volley flies over the bar from close range. Best opportunity of the night so far!

34'

Keane wins the header and then tries again with a volley but Newcastle block both his efforts.

33'

Everton win a free-kick and Rooney's ball nearly finds Tosun but Dummett is on hand to head behind for a corner...

30'

Ritchie tries to find Slimani at the far post with a hanging cross but once again Pickford cuts out his pass.

27'

Yedlin saves the day as Tosun's cutback nearly found Walcott but the right-back was in the right position to clear the danger.

25'

Walcott tries to sneak in behind the Newcastle defence after a through ball from Jagielka but Dubravka is quick and comes out of his six-yard box to stop the attack.

22'

Newcastle win the ball back and Slimani is forced to go backwards to Perez but the forward smashes his shot straight into the stands.

19'

Allardyce's side have definitely been the better of the two sides but there is still a lack of goalmouth action at Goodison Park.

17'

Everton break forward with Tosun and Bolasie both involved but Shelvey is out quick to block a shot and make sure the game remains goalless.

15'

A few Everton fans show their disappointment as Bolasie decides to cross early and can only find the feet of Lascelles.

12'

Good reactions from Pickford thwarts a Newcastle attack and this game is evenly matched so far.

11'

Schneiderlin gets a telling off after pulling back Kenedy after Newcastle cleared that corner with ease.

10'

Everton win a corner after Lejeune fails to hear Dubravka and he clears for a corner even though the goalkeeper had it covered.

7'

Slimani looks up for this one so far and he is doing plenty of running to try and unsettle the home defence.

6'

Early days at Goodison Park but Newcastle have yet to settle into contest, with Everton doing all they can to put pressure on playmaker Shelvey.

4'

Walcott asked for a penalty in the build up to that Tosun chance but referee Bobby Madley rejects his claims.

3'

CHANCE - Walcott makes a powerful run through the middle of midfield and Tosun latches onto his through ball but he slices his shot and misses the target.

1'

Perez gets the game underway...

The two teams are out on the field of play and we are minutes away from kick off.

Rooney starts tonight and in midfield but he has a superb record against tonight's opponents. He has scored 15 Premier League goals against Newcastle, more than he has versus any other opponent, and more than any other player has against the Magpies.

Allardyce names an unchanged team from the draw at the Liberty Stadium, while Benitez hands Slimani his first start in the league since his January loan switch from Leicester City.

Newcastle SUBS: Ciaran Clark, Karl Darlow, Dwight Gayle, Javier Manquillo, Jacob Murphy, Isaac Hayden, Mikel Merino.

Newcastle Starting XI (4-4-1-1): Martin Dubravka, DeAndre Yedlin, Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune, Paul Dummett, Matt Ritchie, Mohamed Diame, Jonjo Shelvey, Kenedy, Ayoze Perez, Islam Slimani.

Everton SUBS: Cuco Martina, Joel Robles, Oumar Niasse, Ramiro Funes Mori, Tom Davies, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beni Baningime.

Everton Starting XI (4-3-3): Jordan Pickford, Seamus Coleman, Michael Keane, Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines, Morgan Schneiderlin, Idrissa Gueye, Wayne Rooney, Theo Walcott, Yannick Bolasie, Cenk Tosun.

TEAM NEWS coming up...

Newcastle's four wins in a row has given the whole club a lift and they are now planning for next season. Benitez's troops made a huge statement last time out by beating Arsenal 2-1 and they will be confident of another big victory tonight.

Sam Allardyce's side have started to struggle in recent weeks, winning just two of their last six. They come into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Swansea.

The Toffees have a great chance to continue their superb run against Newcastle later tonight, having won seven of the last eight league outings. A win this evening would make it five in a row, something they have not done since 1920.

A few weeks ago, this game could have been huge for the Magpies as they lingered towards the bottom of the table. However, a superb turnaround from Rafa Benitez's men means it is a case of ninth versus 10th this evening.

Hello and welcome to tonight's live coverage of the Premier League match between Everton and Newcastle United from Goodison Park.
