Last season's Scottish League Cup final hero has rejoined St. Mirren on loan from Newcastle, the Magpies can confirm.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who scored the winner as the Buddies beat Hearts 3-2 at Hampden Park last term, drove to Paisley on Tuesday morning before signing a loan deal which will keep him at St. Mirren Park until at least January 2014.
He joined Danny Lennon's side last January and received a magnificent reception when he figured for the Magpies in last week's pre-season friendly against the Saints. After that game, Alan Pardew told nufcTV that Newton might return to the club for a second loan spell.
Newton will wear squad number 24 with the Scottish side, just as he did last season, and told the club's official website: "I am delighted to be back at St. Mirren, a club that holds so many great memories for me.
"I am looking forward to working hard and continuing my development at St. Mirren.
"There was interest from other clubs but I felt that the right move for me at this stage was to come back to St. Mirren and continue where I left off.
"Newcastle United are committed to closely monitoring my development and will be in regular contact with St. Mirren throughout my loan spell and I am looking to do my bit once again for St. Mirren."
