Debuchy Sets His Sights High

New signing Mathieu Debuchy is hoping to make an immediate impact on Newcastle's fortunes

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Mathieu Debuchy is hoping to make an immediate impact on Newcastle United's fortunes, and help the Magpies climb the Premier League table.

The French international right-back completed his move to Tyneside from Lille on Friday morning, signing a five-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Debuchy will be available to make his debut next weekend at Norwich, and has vowed to give his all in the black and white stripes to get his new employers back to winning ways.

"My ambition is to bring the Club up to the highest possible position, because the Club is not in its right position," Debuchy told nufcTV in an exclusive first interview.

"We have to get higher and I will try everything to help us get there.

"That is my ambition at the moment, and then to perform as quickly as possible.

"I will give everything for the Club. I will give my best to give my best performances and get the Club to the highest position possible."

Already an impressive performer in his homeland, Debuchy caught the eye of an even wider audience with his performances for France at Euro 2012 last summer.

And the attack-minded defender is confident it will be a case of more of the same for Newcastle.

"I will play like I used to for Lille, with the same qualities," he explained.

"I don't leave anything on the field and give more, and I hope I will bring a lot to this team.

"I like attacking. I like getting forward down the right and I will always be strong in the challenge.

"Don't forget, the most important thing is to defend. After that, if I feel better, I can bring something extra for the attackers.

"I hope I can be ready as soon as possible, to bring something new to the team."
