Peter Lovenkrands joined Newcastle United on 23rd January, 2009, on a short-term deal until the end of that season.

A lively, pacy forward, Lovenkrands scored three times for United in the last four months of the 2008/09 season, and although he was initially released from the Club, the Dane rejoined in August 2009, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal.

On 13th January, 2010, against Plymouth Argyle in the third round of the FA Cup, Lovenkrands hit his first Newcastle hat-trick, and went on to form an impressive strike partnership with Andy Carroll as the Magpies won the Championship title at a canter. He hit 16 goals in 32 appearances as promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt was assured with six games to spare.

Lovenkrands spent much of the early part of the 2010/11 campaign on the substitutes' bench, but following the sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool in January 2011, he secured a regular starting spot up top with Leon Best, finding the back of the net seven times in 29 games.

Early Days

Lovenkrands began his career in his native Denmark with Akademisk Boldklub signing his first professional contract in February 1998, and making his Superliga debut five months later. He was also part of the team which won the Danish Cup a year later.

In June 2000 the forward made a £1.3 million move to Scottish Premier League side Rangers, and his six years north of the border were the most productive years of his career, playing 182 games and winning two SPL titles, as well as one SFA Cup and three League Cups.

Lovenkrands scored 54 goals for the Gers, including the last-minute winner against Celtic at Hampden Park in the 2002 Scottish Cup Final. In 2006 he moved to Schalke 04, netting six times in 44 games for the Bundesliga outfit.

International Career

A former Danish Under-19 Player of the Year, Lovenkrands has represented his country at Under 19, Under 21 and senior level.

The forward made his senior debut on 13th February, 2002, in a 1-0 friendly win over Saudi Arabia and was part of the national squad at the 2002 World Cup and 2004 European Championships.

He won the last of his 22 caps to date on 8th August, 2010, against Portugal.
