Everton v Newcastle: Townsend's Debut

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

At Goodison Park

Andros Townsend will make his Newcastle United debut in Wednesday's Barclays Premier League fixture at Everton (7.45pm kick-off).

The winger arrived from Tottenham Hotspur last week and has gone straight into the Magpies' starting line-up at Goodison Park.

Townsend's inclusion is one of three changes from United's last game at Watford, ten days ago, with Ayoze Perez and Paul Dummett also coming into the side. The trio replace Jamaal Lascelles, Rolando Aarons and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Newcastle are expected to start in a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Rob Elliot behind a back four of Daryl Janmaat, Chancel Mbemba, captain Fabricio Coloccini and fit-again Dummett.

Moussa Sissoko and Townsend will take up roles on either flank, with two more January signings, Henri Saivet and Jonjo Shelvey patrolling the middle of the park for the visitors.

And in the final third, nine-goal leading scorer Georginio Wijnaldum will play just off Spanish forward Ayoze Perez, who signed a new long-term contract on Tyneside this week.

On the substitutes' bench there is a place for deadline day signing Seydou Doumbia, after the on-loan striker was granted a work permit.

And he is joined by Mitrovic, Aarons, Yoan Gouffran, Steven Taylor, Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow.
