At St. James' Park

Newcastle United 1 (Remy 90+2)
Aston Villa 0

SECOND HALF UPDATES

WHISTLE-MDC-icons90+3mins: It's finished 1-0 to Newcastle here thanks to a stoppage time goal from Loic Remy. It was a poor game but who cares - United have gained three big points here at St. James' Park and ended their losing run. Click here for the match report.

GOAL-MDC-iconsYellow-Card-MDC-icons90+2mins - NEWCASTLE UNITED GOAL (1-0): He missed a great chance three minutes ago but now Loic Remy has surely won the points for Newcastle. De Jong again does well, turning and getting in a shot which loops up off a claret and blue shirt and falls perfectly for Remy. He takes his time, has a touch and smashes home to send the fans - and Alan Pardew and his staff - wild with delight. Remy is booked for his celebrations.

90mins: There will be three minutes of stoppage time. As the board goes up, Sissoko's flag-kick is cleared as far as Gosling but after taking a touch, the former England under-21 midfielder shoots over from 20 yards.

SUB-MDC-icons89mins: Dan Gosling is on for Tiote.

88mins: Another great opportunity goes begging for United. De Jong's hard work pays off as he wins a lost cause and pulls the ball back for Remy, whose side-footed effort from 12 yards crashes back off a post.

86mins: Weimann drags wide after a clever Agbonlahor lay-off following a swift Villa counter.

84mins: De Jong has the ball in the net, sweeping home after Sissoko's cut-back, but the flag had already been raised against Sissoko.

83mins: Dummett's latest corner is played short to Anita, whose right-wing cross is headed goalwards by Williamson but then deflected behind - but a goal kick is awarded and not a corner, much to the dismay of the home supporters.

80mins: Suddenly the game has opened up as Remy hits a lot shot which Guzan does well to turn behind for a corner. Dummett's corner is headed away but Newcastle keep Villa penned in and believe they should have a penalty as Bacuna seems to handle the ball as Coloccini knocked it past him. Referee Atkinson, however, waves the appeals away as Sissoko fires over.

78mins: Remy is fouled by Vlaar just outside the box but Gouffran's free-kick hits the wall before his follow-up shot is blocked by Baker. Villa then break quickly but Williamson makes a superb tackle on Benteke.

SUB-MDC-icons76mins: Anita is fouled nearly 30 yards from goal and Remy takes the free-kick, but his shot goes wide before Villa introduce Joe Bennett in a straight swap for Ryan Bertrand.

74mins: Delph drags a shot wide but the former Leeds midfielder doesn't score many and never looked likely to hit the target there.

SUB-MDC-icons72mins: Luuk de Jong is on for Newcastle in place of Cisse, who worked hard but missed a golden opportunity just before half-time.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons70mins: Now Tiote wins the ball in midfield and plays it to Sissoko while being fouled by El Ahmadi. Sissoko advances and shoots narrowly wide before Atkinson brings play back to book the Villa midfielder.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons69mins: Tiote is booked for chopping down Delph inside the Villa half - there are no complaints from the Ivorian.

67mins: Sissoko charges down the left again and cuts the ball back to Tiote, whose shot from 22 yards is on target but too close to Guzan.

65mins: Another opening for the Magpies - Mathieu Debuchy crosses from the right, Remy chests down and Gouffran half-volleys too high.

63mins: So close from Dummett; the defender, still upfield having taken a corner moments earlier, curls a left-footed 20-yard strike agonisingly over the bar.

SUB-MDC-icons61mins: Paul Lambert makes his first change as the tidy midfielder Ashley Westwood is replaced by Yacouba Sylla.

54mins: From the left wing Sissoko finds Remy, whose attempted flick in the box eventually falls to Gouffran, but he drags wide of the far post.

WHISTLE-MDC-icons46mins: Villa get the second period underway, with United now kicking towards the Gallowgate end.

FIRST HALF UPDATES

WHISTLE-MDC-icons45+3mins: It's 0-0 at half-time, with that opportunity for Cisse a few seconds ago the closest either side has come to breaking the deadlock. Click here for a half-time report.

45+2mins: What a chance for Newcastle - Sissoko slides the ball through to Remy who races down the left, cuts inside and cuts the ball back for Cisse who somehow scoops the ball over the bar. He really should have given United the lead just before the break.

45mins: There will be three minutes of stoppage time.

43mins: Dummett and Remy stand over the free-kick, with the latter going for a curler which creeps just wide of Guzan's far post.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons42mins: Remy dribbles past Ron Vlaar on the edge of the box after good work from Yoan Gouffran and the Villa skipper is booked.

35mins: Agbonlahor has been Villa's most dangerous player and his pace allows him enough room to line up another shot from the edge of the box, but Coloccini slides in to deflect the ball behind. Visiting defender Baker was lying injured as his team-mates attacked but after a spot of treatment, he is able to continue and Newcastle keep their concentration to clear the corner.

26mins: Fit-again Cheick Tiote appears to win the ball from Agbonlahor, but came from behind to do so and Atkinson gives Villa a free-kick 22 yards from goal in a central position. Bacuna hits it but Krul scurries across his goal to hold at the second attempt.

20mins: Agbonlahor tries his luck again, this time from 20 yards, and his blistering drive flies inches over. Villa are starting to gain the upper hand after a decent start from the Magpies.

19mins: Fabricio Coloccini misses a header for the first time today and that allows Gabriel Agbonlahor to bring the ball down inside the box and shoot, but Krul does well to palm it away.

17mins: Andreas Weimann rolls the ball to Karim El Ahmadi on the right, and his low cross just manages to evade everybody in the box. The ball is then worked back out to the Moroccan but again his cross-cum-shot flashes across goal.

15mins: A long kick from Tim Krul is flicked on by Mike Williamson and the ball sits up nicely for Remy to hit, but the Frenchman scuffs his effort wide. Perhaps those three games out told there - it was a rather rusty finish.

9mins: Left-back Dummett picks out Cisse with a deep cross from the right and the striker takes a touch and shoots from just inside the box. His low curler skids off the surface and is fumbled by Guzan, with Nathan Baker putting the ball behind under pressure from Anita, who was waiting to gobble up any opportunity.

6mins: Moussa Sissoko gets a shot away after good build up involving Paul Dummett, Loic Remy, Papiss Cisse and Vurnon Anita and his goalbound strike is deflected behind by Ryan Bertrand, but nothing comes from the resulting corner.

4mins: Martin Atkinson awards Villa a free-kick in a dangerous area and, after Fabien Delph steps over the ball, Leandro Bacuna shoots but his attempt zips just wide of the target.

2mins: Loic Remy, back in the side after suspension, looks to get off to a good start on his return as he shoots from 22 yards and his low effort is well held by Brad Guzan, who could not afford to spill that.

WHISTLE-MDC-icons1min: After a minute's applause for Sir Tom Finney and former Newcastle player Nigel Walker, Newcastle get the game started in their black and white home kit. They're attacking towards the Leazes end in the first half, with Aston Villa wearing claret and blue.
