SECOND HALF UPDATES
90+2mins - FULL TIME: Referee Akinson brings the curtain down on a convincing win for Newcastle United, who win for the first time in six Barclays Premier League matches. The players return to the pitch to allow supporters to show their appeciation for their efforts in the 2013/14 season.
90+1mins: Sissoko's swashbuckling runs have been a major feature of Newcastle's improved performance today. This time, his run and shot is turned away by Marshall to prevent the former Toulouse man adding extra gloss to the scoreline.
87mins - NEWCASTLE UNITED GOAL (2-0): Loic Remy calmly slots home his 14th league goal of the seaosn after Sissoko's shot was deflected into his path.
86mins: Substitution for Cardiff City - Magnus Wolff Eikrem replaces Fabio
84mins: Jones' knockdown finds Gunnarsson in the box, but Coloccini steps in to belt the ball away before a shooting chance could present itself. Bellamy's speculative half-volley is blocked by Taylor and, at the other end, Sissoko's weak cross is deflected into the arms of Marshall.
81mins: Tiote prepares to launch a free-kick into the Cardiff box, but it's cleared and Zaha breaks. The move breaks down, however, as Whittingham's pass finds Bellamy in an offside position on the left.
76mins: Zaha's cross is kept alive by Gunnarsson and the ball runs for Jones, who is superbly denied by Krul. Then, from a Bellamy cross, Gunnarsson looked set to equalise after Krul spilled the centre, but Coloccini produces a magnificent goalline block to turn the ball behind and keep his side in the lead. Brilliant defending from the skipper.
73mins: Substitution for Cardiff City - Kenwyne Jones replaces Fraizer Campbell. They immediately break in search of a leveller, but Jordan Mutch's shot is wild and the chance is spurned.
71mins: Fabio skips past Haidara on the right and squares, but Mike Williamson, who's had a quiet yet effective game, is well placed to volley clear.
67mins: Yellow card (Newcastle United) - Mathieu Debuchy is booked after bringing down Wilfried Zaha, but Krul repels the attack by punching away the free-kick.
65mins: Substitute Haidara bursts on to Ameobi's lay-off, but his cross sails out of play. Brighter from the hosts, who are steadily growing in influence in the second half.
60mins: Jordan Mutch's long ball gives Campbell something to chase, but Debuchy dispossesses City's top scorer. Sissoko, who is turning in a impressive display thus far, tries to create something on the right flank but to no avail. Cardiff look much more assured at the back after returning from the break.
57mins: Though City have begun the half on the front foot, it's United who are looking to counter with almost an hour on the clock. Whittingham swings in a corner which is cleared as far as Gouffran, who sets off on a run, but Declan John does well to track and snuff out the danger.
53mins: Campbell's high, hanging cross almost catches Krul out, but the ball drifts just past the Dutchman's right-hand post.
48mins: Bellamy swings in a corner in front of the Gallowgate, but the danger is cleared. Cardiff have started the second period in a lively fashion.
45mins: Martin Atkinson blows his whistle and Cardiff get the game back underway. It's Cardiff's turn to defend the Leazes End this half.
45mins: Substitution for Cardiff City - Craig Bellamy replaces Kim Bo-Kyung.
HALF TIME 45+2mins: The two minutes of added time pass without incident and Martin Atkinson blows for half-time.
44mins: It's been a sloppy end to the half, though the game has opened up a little. However, United have been unable to carve out any clear-cut opportunities during the latter part of the first period
42mins: Sissoko drags a shot from range well wide of the target.
38mins: Campbell earns Cardiff a throw by the corner flag, but Kim Bo-Kyung's control lets him down and the ball runs away from him. Campbell and Zaha, in particular, are proving to be a sporadic threat to the Toon backline.
36mins: Tiote, breaking from midfield, latches on to Anita's lay-off but his wayward effort flies past the post.
31mins: Sissoko's cross takes a nick off a Cardiff defender and goes behind via the right-hand upright.
30mins: Another break from Zaha results in a scoring opportunity, but Debuchy does just enough to put him off. The ball runs loose, but Campbell slips and United clear.
29mins: Zaha's speed and trickery bamboozles Debuchy, and the on-loan winger's low shot is saved by Tim Krul's outstretched right foot. The corner comes to nothing, but it's the Welsh outfit's first real sight of goal.
26mins: Comfortable in possession - especially in midfield - United look threatening. Cardiff are sitting deep and looking to counter, but Coloccini, Williamson and Dummett haven't given the visitors' pacy frontline any room for manouvere.
21mins: After being teed up by Anita, Sissoko strikes the base of Marshall's post with a deflected drive as the Magpies seek a second. They're dominating proceedings at the moment.
18mins - NEWCASTLE UNITED GOAL (1-0): Shola Ameobi heads home a fantastic cross from Sissoko to give United a deserved lead.
16mins: Sissoko's pass is cleverly left by Remy for his compatriot Debuchy to run on to, and the full-back's stinging drive is palmed away by Marshall. From the corner, debuchy again went close, denied this time by a full-stretch stop from the Scotsman.
15mins: Gouffran intercepts Anita's pass, which was intended for the oncoming Dummett, but the ball rolls harmlessly through to Marshall.
14mins: Another Dummett set-piece fails to beat the wall, but Sissoko's persistance earns Newcastle a throw-in. Cardiff clear.
13mins: The corner is taken short to Gouffran, who gives it straight back to Remy. After cutting inside, the Frenchman tries his luck, but pulls his shot well wide of the target.
12mins: United are enjoying a sustained period of possession, but are yet to pick the Cardiff lock. Sissoko forces a corner, which is to be taken by Remy.
8mins: Debuchy returns to the field as Tiote's driving run forces Gunnarsson into a foul. Free-kick to United, 25 yards from goal. Dummett's curling effort is blocked by the Cardiff wall and Vurnon Anita can't recover Coloccini's searching crossfield pass. Goal kick to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.
6mins: Brief stoppage in play as Mathieu Debuchy receives treatment for a head injury.
4mins: The Cardiff fans are in good voice, as Zaha forces a throw-in on the right. United clear their lines, though, but from a Fabio cross, Fraizer Campbell spurns a great opportunity for the visitors. The former Sunderland striker dragged his effort wide after Krul had punched the Brazilian's centre into his path.
1min: Moussa Sissoko drills in a cross from the right which finds Loic Remy at the far post, but his effort is deflected wide for a corner. Mathieu Debuchy volleys high over David Marshall's goal from the resulting corner. It's been a bright start from the hosts.
1min: It's Yoan Gouffran and Vurnon Anita who get the game underway. Newcastle United are attacking the Gallowgate End in the first half.
