Newcastle v Fulham: Key Moments

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Newcastle United 1 (Cisse 90+3)
Fulham 0

WHISTLE-MDC-icons90+5mins: Papiss Cisse's last-gasp goal has won it for Newcastle. Alan Pardew's side threw everything at Fulham in the closing stages and it's given them a massive victory ahead of next weekend's Tyne-Wear derby.

GOAL-MDC-iconsYellow-Card-MDC-icons90+3mins - NEWCASTLE GOAL (1-0): The pressure pays off at last and it's Newcastle's last action hero once again. Papiss Cisse reacts as Cabaye's long-range shot is deflected into his path and keeps his composure to poke the ball home. What a huge goal that could be. He is booked for celebrating with the fans and Alan Pardew more or less jumps into the crowd too!

90+1mins: Cabaye breaks into the box and flicks the ball away from two defenders but the ball just won't come down for him.

90mins: John Arne Riise is booked for a foul on Marveaux as five minutes of stoppage time is signalled.

88mins: So close - Anita crosses from the right and Cisse heads towards goal but Schwarzer makes a great save to tip it behind. It just looks like it might be one of those days for Newcastle.

85mins: Cabaye clips a ball over the top for Ameobi, whose first touch is sublime but he's just crowded out as he shoots allowing Schwarzer to save.

83mins: Riise sneaks in unmarked on the left and flashes a shot across goal - United switched off for a moment there and were almost made to pay.

SUB-MDC-icons81mins: Martin Jol makes an attacking change as he introduces Hugo Rodallega for Stanislav Manolev. Meanwhile Newcastle bring on Adam Campbell for Simpson, with Anita going to right-back. Both teams are going for it.

80mins: Cabaye plays the ball out to Simpson, who has a potshot from 25 yards but it's a poor effort from the right-back and goes well off target.

77mins: Sissoko finds Simpson, who stands up a cross for Ameobi at the far post, but the substitute heads wide - that was a great chance for Newcastle to take the lead.

71mins: Marveaux and Cabaye combine well on the left to tee up Ameobi for a shot from a tight angle, but the big man couldn't get enough power behind his strike to seriously trouble Schwarzer.

SUB-MDC-icons69mins: Alan Pardew makes his second substitution. It's Gouffran who makes way despite a lively showing and Shola Ameobi who comes on.

68mins: After all this Newcastle pressure, Berbatov almost puts Fulham ahead. John Arne Riise floats in the free-kick and the Bulgarian meets it with a fine header which Krul superbly pushes over. The corner is then half-cleared but only as far as Riise, who fires in a shot but it goes narrowly wide.

64mins: Marveaux's right-wing corner is headed goalwards by Gouffran and blocked on the line by a Fulham defender - possibly with his arm - before Sissoko glances wide as the ball is pumped back in. The fans behind the Gallowgate goal were convinced Newcastle should have a penalty but referee Friend isn't sure.

61mins: Cabaye slides a clever ball into the feet of Taylor, who once again was hanging around after a set-piece was half-cleared, and the defender cracks a low strike which Schwarzer gets down to at his near post.

58mins: Yoan Gouffran races down the left and crosses low for Cisse, who perhaps didn't expect the ball to reach him because his first touch was too heavy and allowed Schwarzer to smother.

55mins: Now Marveaux's corner is met by Taylor but he nods just wide. The fans respond to this spell of pressure and the ground is suddenly alive.

53mins: Marveaux's right-wing cross is headed out as far as Anita, whose half-volley takes a wicked deflection off Frimpong to wrongfoot Schwarzer but the ball hits the bar - so unlucky.

SUB-MDC-icons51mins: Enoh is replaced by Emmanuel Frimpong, the tough-tackling midfielder on loan from Arsenal.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons50mins: Now Sissoko is fouled as he gallops forward and Giorgis Karagounis is shown a yellow card.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons47mins: Sissoko is booked for a supposed foul on Eyong Enoh - the Frenchman slid in and appeared to win the ball, but caught the Fulham man too. He needs treatment but is okay to continue.

WHISTLE-MDC-icons46mins: Newcastle get the second half started kicking towards the Gallowgate end - can they improve in the last third and pick up what would be a valuable win?

WHISTLE-MDC-icons45+1mins: Referee Kevin Friend blows for half-time and it's 0-0 at the break. Newcastle have had a few decent openings but Mark Schwarzer has yet to make a genuine save while Tim Krul was forced to make a great stop from Stanislav Manolev shortly before the interval. Click here for the half-time report.

45mins: There will be just one minute of stoppage time at the end of the half.

43mins: Today's attendance is 51,847 including 502 from Fulham.

39mins: Fulham break swiftly from a Newcastle attack with Berbatov popping up on the right and playing a clever pass to Bryan Ruiz, who is denied a great opportunity as Yanga-Mbiwa slides in from nowhere to nick the ball away. Then the corner comes in and isn't dealt with, and Stanislav Manolev turns and shoots six yards from goal but Tim Krul makes a great reaction save before United finally scramble the ball away.

32mins: Sissoko's touch on the halfway lines breaks for Sylvain Marveaux, who carries the ball forwards before sliding it through to Cisse but the striker fires over from just inside the box. Newcastle are creating plenty but their finishing has been very poor so far.

31mins: Anita floats the ball across to Taylor, who heads powerfully back across goal for Cisse. The striker's first touch is excellent and sets up a chance which Brede Hangeland does well to block.

27mins: Sissoko charges forward before laying the ball off to Cisse on the left-hand angle of the penalty area. The Senegalese star tries to bend one into the net but it curls a few inches wide.

24mins: A cross from Damien Duff causes problems and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa tries to put it behind but almost slices the ball into his own net - fortunately it goes wide and Newcastle deal well with the corner.

21mins: Gutierrez sprints into the Fulham half and rolls the ball to Yohan Cabaye, who turns and shoots from nearly 30 yards but it swerves off target. United are largely controlling possession but haven't tested the Cottagers keeper yet.

19mins: Panicky Fulham defending sees the ball break for Sissoko 25 yards from goal but the Frenchman scuffs his shot well wide of Mark Schwarzer's goal.

SUB-MDC-icons17mins: Vurnon Anita comes on for Santon, who is carried down the tunnel by three of United's medical staff. Gutierrez drops in to play as an official left-back.

16mins: Steven Taylor makes a great tackle in his own half to start a United attack which ends in Simpson whipping the ball over from the right and Papiss Cisse heading over the bar. However Davide Santon was lying prone as that move developed and it looks like he will have to come off with what appears to be a hamstring injury.

11mins: Moussa Sissoko swings over a great cross from the right and Steven Taylor, still upfield from an earlier corner, meets it but heads over the bar when well placed. United are starting to gather momentum here.

7mins: Davide Santon is effectively playing as a winger in these opening few minutes, with Jonas Gutierrez behind him more often than not, and the Italian almost gets on the end of a cross from Danny Simpson but just can't get enough on the ball to force it towards goal.

4mins: The classy Dimitar Berbatov rarely seems to break a sweat but suddenly bursts into life to latch onto a loose ball and motors towards the box before striking with the outside of the boot from the edge of the area. His effort goes a couple of inches off target with Tim Krul at full stretch.

WHISTLE-MDC-icons1min: It's a big afternoon for Newcastle United in the Barclays Premier League and the match is now underway, with Fulham taking kick-off and Alan Pardew's side kicking towards the Leazes end in the first half. The visitors are in orange shirts, white shorts and orange socks with the Magpies in their famous home colours. And although it's not a complete sell-out, there's a pretty impressive crowd despite a paltry following from Fulham.
