SECOND HALF UPDATES
90+4mins: Stoke's unbeaten home record continues and United's losing sequence carries on - but Alan Pardew will wonder how. His side were comfortable in the first half before taking the lead through Papiss Cisse's fourth of the season, and it looked set to stay that way until the Potters struck twice in the final ten minutes to pick up all three points. Unlike at Southampton on Sunday, there were positive signs for the Magpies but ultimately it's a fourth consecutive defeat.
90+3mins: Ranger gets a good flick onto a long free-kick from Krul, but it goes straight into Begovic's arms and it looks like Stoke will see this out.
90+2mins: Tiote plays a great raking pass from the edge of his own box for Ameobi to chase but he's just beaten to it by Begovic, whose starting position was good.
90mins: Chris Foy indicates that there will be four minutes of stoppage time as the away fans urge Newcastle on to score a late equaliser.
87mins: Nile Ranger is on in place of Papiss Cisse and Sammy Ameobi replaces Vurnon Anita as Alan Pardew looks to get back into this game - let's hope this double substitution proves to be as effective as Stoke's.
85mins - STOKE GOAL (2-1): That double change looks like an even better decision from Pulis now - Jerome has turned the game totally on its head and suddenly United are on course for a fourth consecutive defeat when they'd been comfortable for much of this game. The ball was flicked on by Jones and the former Birmingham man rifled home - two goals in four minutes and suddenly it's not looking good.
81mins - STOKE GOAL (1-1): Jerome crosses from the right and Walters climbs highest to head home. Now Stoke's tails are up and having conceded late goals at Sunderland and Liverpool from winning positions, it's happened again here at the Britannia Stadium. Tony Pulis' side have kept plugging away and that double substitution they made midway through the half has paid dividends. It's disappointing for United, who had defended so well until that point.
80mins: Jones feeds Kightly on the left and the ex-Wolves man stands up a wonderful cross for Jerome, arriving in the box. He can only head straight at Krul, though, and the Dutch keeper gathers with ease - the substitute should have scored.
78mins: Cisse charges down Cameron's attempted clearance and the ball breaks for his compatriot Ba, who races towards goal and, from a similar angle to Cisse's a few minutes earlier, hits a low shot which Begovic gets down to well. United are having to soak up some pressure here but they look a threat on the break as the hosts throw more and more men forward.
68mins: A double substitution for the hosts - Charlie Adam is replaced by Michael Kightly and Matthew Etherington makes way for Cameron Jerome.
66mins: Now it's Krul's turn to make a vital block as he keeps out Walters' powerful half-volley from 14 yards before the former Chester and Ipswich striker blasts his follow-up over the bar.
64mins: Krul's kick sails over everybody and runs perfectly for Cisse to sprint onto. He's at a narrow angle on the right but gets his shot away and forced Begovic to beat it away.
60mins: Perch goes up for a high ball and is sent crashing to the ground, initially lying motionless before eventually getting to his feet after treatment from physio David Henderson. Tonight's attendance is 26,793.
58mins: Stoke full-back Geoff Cameron is yellow carded for a late tackle on Perch after the United man had cleared the ball upfield, so that's now two bookings apiece.
54mins: Ba warms Begovic's hands again on this cold evening with a stinging shot from distance, but this time the Potters stopper is able to hold on.
52mins: Etherington digs out a cross from the left and it reaches Walters at the far post, but under pressure from a couple of Newcastle defenders he can only nod the ball wide.
47mins - NEWCASTLE GOAL (0-1): Things have just got an awful lot better for Newcastle as Papiss Cisse gives them the lead. Tiote picked Whelan's pocket in midfield and Demba Ba had a shot from 22 yards. It was a decent strike but straight at Begovic, who should have held it but instead spilled the ball and Cisse was rushing in to tuck home from close range via the inside of a post. Every outfield player ran towards the striker to join in the celebrations - that could be a huge goal in United's season.
46mins: Howard Webb restarts the game with Stoke kicking off and Newcastle now attacking towards the Marston's Pedigree stand where their supporters are housed.
FIRST HALF UPDATES
45+3mins: After three straight defeats, Newcastle will be quite content with how the first half has gone; they draw 0-0 and were compact and disciplined in the opening period. They haven't created too much but they've restricted Stoke's chances and it's a case of so far, so good in the Potteries.
45mins: There will be three minutes of stoppage time at the end of the first half, as signalled by fourth official Chris Foy.
42mins: One of Jones' first touches sees him blaze wide at the far post after Whelan's floated left-wing corner had been flicked on, but Webb's whistle had already sounded after he spotted a Stoke foul before the ball reached the substitute and so partially spared his blushes.
40mins: Peter Crouch goes down after what looked to be completely accidental collision with Fabricio Coloccini's arm and the lanky frontman has to make way for Kenwyne Jones, the former Sunderland striker.
33mins: The Potters break two-on-one as Cheick Tiote fails to cut out Whelan's forward pass and Etherington scampers down the left but overhits his pass towards Adam, who was waiting for a tap-in inside the area. The Scottish midfielder retrieves the ball but Santon puts in a good tackle and a great opportunity goes begging.
29mins: Whelan has shown time and time again over the last few years that he's one of the cleanest strikers of the ball in the Barclays Premier League and he gave another illustration there. The ball sat up nicely for him 25 yards from goal and he cut across it beautifully as he sent a stunning half-volley arrowing towards goal - fortunately for United it was just wide, with Krul at full stretch as he dived to his left.
28mins: Charlie Adam becomes the first home player to be booked after a clumsy challenge of Jonas Gutierrez.
19mins: Whelan's free-kick has Krul worried but drifts over the bar as the score remains 0-0 at the Britannia Stadium, and although Stoke have came into the game more in the last few minutes Alan Pardew will be fairly happy so far.
18mins: Now Perch is booked for a tackle on Matthew Etherington 30 yards from goal - that'll mean a one-match ban for him, just what Newcastle didn't need.
16mins: A let-off for United from the free-kick awarded for Santon's foul - Glenn Whelan's deep delivery caused panic and hit Mike Williamson to roll towards goal with Tim Krul helpless, but it trickled back off the base of the post. Then from the corner, Walters stopped to glance a header goalwards but it was straight at Krul.
15mins: Davide Santon becomes the first player to be booked for a foul on Jonathan Walters. On its own, it was a harsh booking but Howard Webb had pulled the Italian up for another late tackle a couple of minutes earlier and so reached for the card.
7mins: As a chant of 'there's only one Gary Speed' starts in the away end - it was a year yesterday since he passed away - Newcastle look to be inspired as Papiss Cisse lays the ball off for Anita, whose shot on the turn from inside the area goes straight at Asmir Begovic. It's been a sharp start from the out-of-form Magpies.
6mins: James Perch, back in the team after recovering from injury, receives a pass from Vurnon Anita and lets fly from the edge of the area. It's a good strike from the man known as Perchinho and it whistles just wide, hitting the side-netting as it does so.
1min: On a chilly evening in the Potteries, we're underway at the Britannia Stadium as Newcastle look to end a run which currently stands at three straight defeats. They could barely have asked for a more difficult place to come, with Stoke unbeaten here so far this season, but United produced a fine display to win on this ground last term. The Magpies are in black and white stripes with black shorts with Stoke in red and white stripes and white shorts. It's the Magpies who take kick-off and they're attacking the Boothen End in this first period.
