Moussa Sissoko struck a second half brace to earn Newcastle United a last-gasp 3-2 home victory over Chelsea on Saturday in the Barclays Premier League.

The French international, signed from Toulouse less than a fortnight ago, netted the winner in the final minute to earn the Magpies a deserved - and memorable - three points at St. James' Park.

Earlier, Jonas Gutierrez headed home late in the first half to give the Magpies a half-time at the break, only for Frank Lampard and Juan Mata to turn the game on its head in the second period with quick-fire strikes.

But Sissoko fired in a loose ball straight away to level things back up before driling home the winner as the clock ticked away.

It was an impressive and bright start from Newcastle. Home debutant Yoan Gouffran tried his luck inside the opening 35 seconds but, having worked a yard of space inside the box, the forward's low left-footed shot was tame and failed to trouble Petr Cech.

Santon was next to have a go, cutting inside of the left flank before drilling a low effort towards the near post which Cech got down well to smother.

But for all United's early dominance, it was Chelsea who should have opened the scoring on 15 minutes through Lampard.

Juan Mata dinked a ball over the home defence into the path of Ashley Cole, and his half-volleyed cross was met by the unmarked Lampard eight yards out, only for the normally-clinical midfielder to sky his effort well over the top.

Oscar saw a long-range strike also end up in the Leazes End stand, before Newcastle regained the initiative and hit back at the visitors.

Almost immediately Cabaye had stung the palms of Cech from 25 yards, before Moussa Sissoko fed Cisse right on the edge of the box, only for the Senegalese front man's shot to be well saved by Chelsea's giant stopper.

Santon is yet to open his account for the Magpies but almost did so in stunning fashion on 23 minutes. As Chelsea failed to properly clear Mathieu Debuchy's right-wing delivery, Santon met a looping ball on the volley but saw it fly about a yard wide, with Cech static.

Ba was making his first return to St. James' Park since his switch to Chelsea less than a month ago, and just past the half-hour mark he had a chance to break the deadlock against his former employers.

Lampard released the front man with a ball over the top and he got slightly ahead of Fabricio Coloccini before striking goalwards.

Krul excelled with a fine parry and Ba, under pressure from Coloccini once more, could only head the rebound inches the wrong side of the upright, taking a boot to the face for his troubles.

United were soon back in the ascendency and only an outstanding save from Cech kept the scores level.

An effort from Cabaye hit the knees of Cisse and dropped kindly into is path, but the Blues' goalkeeper dived full-length to his left to fingertip away Cisse's placed-finish which was heading for the bottom corner.

It looked as though half-time would arrive with the game still goalless, but Gutierrez had other ideas.

With just four minutes before the break, Cabaye swept a ball out to Santon on the left touchline and he duly delivered an inviting cross into the heart of the penalty area, where Gutierrez nipped ahead of John Terry to direct a downward header into the corner and send a packed-out St. James' Park crowd crazy.

The second half was just ten minutes old when Chelsea equalised. From the throw-in on the left, Ashley Cole found Lampard in space and he held off the challenge of Cabaye before planting a dipping 25-yarder past the helpless Krul.

Lampard almost had his - and the visitors' - second of the afternoon just four minutes later. Lovely work involving Oscar and Mata saw the latter deliver a cross from the right onto the midfielder's forehead, but Lampard could only head straight at Krul from close range.

And, they turned the game on its head just past the hour mark with Mata's stunner.

As substitute Fernando Torres laid the ball back into the Spaniard's path around 16 yards out, he curled a first-time, inch-perfect effort into the top corner.

Newcastle needed a response and they got it almost immediately as Sissoko opened his Magpies' account on his home debut.

It all stemmed from a Chelsea attack, with Gutierrez breaking up play and finding Cisse on the halfway line, and from there, the Magpies drove forward at pace.

Cisse released Gouffran, who raced away and saw his shot parried by Cech, but Sissoko was well-placed to tuck home the rebound and draw United back on level terms.

The midfielder, signed from Toulouse earlier this month, obviously had a taste for goal as he went close moments later, striding past Ashley Cole before forcing Cech to turn behind his shot across the face of goal.

On 82 minutes it was that man Sissoko again, making the most of good play by Debuchy and Gouffran by racing down the left and prodding towards the near post from a tight angle, but finding Cech blocking his path.

And just when it looked as though United would have to settle for an impressive point against the champions of Europe, Sissoko clinched all three and with it back-to-back victories.

The powerful midfielder exchanged passes with Santon before wrong-footing Cech from the edge of the area with a low drive which lifted the roof off St. James' Park.
