FA Cup Third Round Replay

Craig Hope reports from St.James' Park ...
PETER Lovenkrands was the hat-trick hero as Newcastle United safely navigated their passage into the Fourth Round of the FA Cup with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle.
It took ten minutes for the hosts to steady any potential nerves as Lovenkrands squeezed home his first from eight yards having raced onto a slick Jonas Gutierrez throughball.
The Argentine winger was again the provider five minutes shy of the break when his cross was flashed home by the forehead of his Danish team-mate.
Lovenkrands emerged match-ball hungry after the interval and duly completed his treble in the 72nd minute when he hooked beyond Romain Larrieu from close range at the Gallowgate End.
A Fourth Round tie at West Brom awaits Chris Hughton's men.
SECOND-HALF UPDATES (click refresh for latest)
Full-time, 3-0 United.
There will be two minutes added time.
88min - Local lad Ryan Donaldson is going to get a run out and it's hat-trick hero Peter Lovenkrands who receives a standing ovation from the home crowd.
86min - Enrique has options aplenty as he charges into the area from the left wing but his cross merely succeeds in finding the gloves of Larrieu inside the six-yard area.
82min - Sheridan barges his way through two United challenges on the left but the quality of the winger's cross fails to match his endeavour and Krul claims.
76min - Kevin Nolan has taken the armband.
75min - Nicky Butt is coming off with what looks like a knock to the head and is replaced by Nile Ranger - Lovenkrands will revert to wide-right role.
72min - NEWCASTLE GOAL (3-0): And who else but Peter Lovenkrands with his hat-trick goal! Jose Enrique burns down the left flank and throws a high ball to the far post. Andy Carroll heads back into the path of Kevin Nolan who in turn helps on for the Danish striker to hook home right-footed from close range.
70min - A wasteful cross from Fabrice Pancrate marks his final involvement and Danny Guthrie enters the action.
65min - Gutierrez weaves his way into the penalty area and, despite tumbling towards the turf, manages to release a low cross which clips away for a corner off the heel of Arnason. Taylor zips a cross into the danger zone in the direction of Andy Carroll but, despite a towering leap, he is out-jumped by Fallon who clears.
63min - Nolan drops a short pass off for Carroll who sees a left-footed strike deflect away off Barker for a corner. Ryan Taylor centres but the long-legged New Zealander Rory Fallon leaps to head clear.
61min - Gutierrez works infield from the left and, with the ball on his favoured right foot, drives a bouncing 20-yard effort inches wide of Larrieu's far upright.
59min - A double change for Argyle sees Bradley Wright-Phillips and Cillian Sheridan enter the fray with Alan Judge and Ashley Barnes making way.
57min - The home crowd urge hat-trick-hungry Lovenkrands to shoot 20 yards out, but the Dane, perhaps sensing his first treble in English football, lashes horribly wide - plenty of time left to get that matchball, though.
53min - Summerfield unleashes a snap shot down the throat of Tim Krul from 20 yards. The Dutch keeper, though, shows razor-sharp reactions to rearrange his arms and pats the ball down before gathering.
50min - A quiet opening to the second period but news has come through that United's Under-18s are through to the Fifth Round of the FA Youth Cup after a 3-1 win at Reading.
United get us started, no changes at the break.
Half-time, it's been a comfortable half for United - 2-0.
There will be one minute added time.
40min - NEWCASTLE GOAL (2-0): Jonas Gutierrez is again the provider and Peter Lovenkrands is again the scorer; the Dane darting onto the Argentine's left-wing cross before flashing a header through the weak grasp of Romain Larrieu from six yards.
38min - Lovenkrands again leaves his marker trailing with a diagonal run in behind the backline as Gutierrez rolls a pass into the penalty area. The Dane, rather than shoot, decides to square in the direction of strike partner Carroll but the pair aren't on the same wave length and the low cross, begging to be converted, goes to waste with the Geordie striker expecting the pull back.
34min - Carroll kills dead a high punt downfield before swapping passes with Gutierrez. The angle opens up for a shot 20 yards out but Carroll lashes wide of the Argyle target with those fans in the lower reaches of the Leazes End ducking for cover!
33min - Lovenkrands, aware of the presence of Carroll in his shadow, steps over Pancrate's low cross but the Geordie striker scuffs a first-time effort from 10 yards out and the ball dribbles into the gloves of Larrieu.
28min - Lovenkrands steals into the area down the right before squaring for Kevin Nolan, The Scouser opts for a first-time effort but sweeps over the crossbar from 12 yards - right idea but lacked the execution.
27min - Enrique slices open the green rearguard with a measured slide which allows Gutierrez to give chase. The Argentine fends off the attentions of Barker but his near-post chip is plucked to safety by Larrieu - that was some ball from the Spanish full-back.
25min - United are restricting their opponents to efforts from range and Ashley Barnes is next to chance his luck but his 20-yard effort drags tamely wide.
23min - And Krul makes an almost identical stop from Fletcher's midfield sidekick Summerfield.
20min - Tim Krul's first involvement of note has taken all of 20 minutes to arrive and it's a routine save for the Dutchman as he flops to the turf to gather Carl Fletcher's 20-yard daisy cutter.
16min - Andy Carroll switches play with an elegant, lofted pass which lands at the feet of Pancrate. The French winger wastes no time in steadying himself for the cross before hoisting a ball to the far post in the direction of Carroll. The Geordie frontman scampers to connect and is unlucky when an improvised back heel, from an acute angle, lands on the roof of the Argyle net with keeper Larrieu scrambling to get there.
10min - NEWCASTLE GOAL (1-0): But that slow start counts for nothing as United break with Gutierrez before the Argentine slots a slick pass through a static Argyle backline allowing Peter Lovenkrands to race clear and loop a first-time effort between Romain Larrieu and his near post.
8min - The hosts have been caught napping in possession on several occassions so far with Chris Hughton far from happy with what has been a rather sluggish start.
6min - United win the game's first corner but, when Ryan Taylor's whipped delivery looks to have landed on the head of Steven Taylor, steaming in eight yards from goal, the Geordie defender fails to connect before a green shirt swipes clear.
4min - Meanwhile, back here at St.James', it's been a fairly sedate start which, if anything, the visitors have shaded.
Don't forget our Under-18s are in action at Reading tonight in the Fourth Round of the FA Youth Cup and the latest from the Madejski Stadium is that it's 2-0 to United at half-time with Brad Inman and Phil Airey on target.
We're off at Gallowgate with Plymouth attacking the Gallowgate End.
It's not as cold as expected on Tyneside and, other than Tim Krul, there's not a pair of gloves in sight among the United lads.
AS promised in the build up to tonight's game, Chris Hughton has recalled the senior outfield stars who have not started since the goalless draw with Debry County on December 28.
Steven Taylor, Jose Enrique, Kevin Nolan, Jonas Gutierrez, Peter Lovenkrands and Andy Carroll all come in to the side, while Tim Krul, Ryan Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini, Fabrice Pancrate and Nicky Butt retain their place having started the stalemate at Plymouth 11 days ago.
Skipper Butt makes his 150th start for United and is joined in the centre of midfield by 11-goal top scorer Nolan.
French winger Pancrate said today that he is hoping to celebrate the birth of his first son by helping fire The Magpies into the Fourth Round where an away tie at West Brom awaits.
Alan Smith is not included in the squad but should return for Monday's Championship clash with The Baggies at Gallowgate.
