Newcastle v Sunderland: Four Changes

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Alan Pardew has made four changes to his Newcastle United starting line-up for Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland at St. James' Park (1.30pm kick-off).

Defender Daryl Janmaat has completed his one-game ban, while Steven Taylor, midfielder Cheick Tiote and forward Sammy Ameobi are fit again following respective injuries and return to the Magpies line-up for the Barclays Premier League fixture.

Mike Williamson, Massadio Haidara, Remy Cabella and Emmanuel Riviere are the quartet who miss out from the Capital One Cup quarter-final defeat at Spurs in midweek.

United are expected to start in a 4-3-3 formation, with 21-year-old goalkeeper Jak Alnwick behind a back four of Janmaat, Taylor, captain Fabricio Coloccini and Paul Dummett.

Moussa Sissoko, Tiote and former Sunderland man Jack Colback make up the midfield trio, while ahead of them, Yoan Gouffran and Ameobi will take up roles on the flanks, either side of Spanish starlet Ayoze Perez.

On the substitutes' bench there are places for three strikers - in the shape of seven-goal leading scorer Papiss Cisse, summer signing Emmanuel Riviere, and 17-year-old Adam Armstrong.

Sunderland defender Anthony Reveillere suffered an injury in the warm-up and was replaced by Sebastian Coates, although no additional substitute was named by the Black Cats.
