Paris born but a Senegalaies international, Habib Beye joined United from Marseille on 31 August 2007, signing a three year contract.

Captain of Marseille in 2006/07, Beye played in the right back slot throughout most of the season, helping his side to a League 1 fourth place finish.

One of the most accomplished defenders in France's top tier, Habib began his career at PSG in 1997 before moving to Strasbourg where he won the French Cup in 2001.

A member of the Senegal team at the 2002 World Cup where he appeared as a substitute against Denmark, Uruguay and Greece as the Lions of Teranga reached the Quarter Finals.

Beye also played in both legs of the UEFA Cup semi final for Marseille against the Magpies in 2004, going on to pick up a runners-up medal in the final as the French side were defeated by Valencia.
