Pic Special: Newcastle 5 Stoke 1

There were two red cards, a missed penalty and six goals in this Christmas cracker at St. James' Park as Newcastle romped to a seventh victory in nine games.

Both sides had been in good form going into the match but United were below par for much of the first period and Stoke went ahead Oussama Assaidi's wonderful 29th minute effort.

However, the complexion of the game changed completely when Glenn Whelan was shown a second yellow card in the 40th minute and Potters boss Mark Hughes was then sent to the stand for his protests. And three minutes later, Marc Wilson was dismissed for pulling back Loic Remy as he raced onto Vurnon Anita's pass

Remy's spot-kick was saved by Thomas Sorensen but on the stroke of half-time the Frenchman had equalised as he swept home via a deflection to make it 1-1.

And in the second half, the Magpies made their numerical advantage count in style as Yoan Gouffran gave them the lead before Remy, Cabaye and Papiss Cisse added further goals.
