Pic Special: Everton 3 Newcastle 2

Newcastle United were left to rue a poor first half performance as they suffered a 3-2 defeat away at Everton on Monday night in the Barclays Premier League.

The Magpies found themselves three down after 37 minutes at Goodison Park, as Romelu Lukaku bagged a brace and starlet Ross Barkley was also on target for the rampant hosts.

It was no more than they deserved but United hit back after the break and were much improved. Yoan Gouffran struck the post before substitute Yohan Cabaye found the top corner from 30 yards to offer a lifeline.

Loic Remy then netted from close range with seconds remaining but they were unable to force a dramatic late leveller and left Merseyside empty-handed.
