Pic Special: First Glimpse Of Famous Gates

They were removed 14 years ago, during the redevelopment of the stadium, but soon the historic St. James' Park gates will be back where they belong.

Work started on Friday morning to recover and lift the huge wrought-iron gates from Sir John Hall's farmland at Woolsington Hall and transport them to a workshop ready to be refurbished and then, later this summer, installed on Barrack Road.

It comes as a result of a successful partnership between the Club, NUFC Fans United, former chairman Sir John's Magpie Group and Wonga.com, the Club's new principal sponsors who have stepped in to provide the necessary funding to make a long-held dream become a reality.

The iconic gates will be officially unveiled close to the beginning of the Barclays Premier League season and, thanks to North News & Pictures, we can give supporters this first glimpse ahead of what will be an emotional homecoming.

nufcTV subscribers will be able to see a video of the gates being recovered and lifted, including an interview with Sir John Hall, later today
