United matched the Premier League champions for much of their top flight fixture on Saturday afternoon, but ended up on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline.

After some early Magpies pressure, City broke the deadlock through front man Sergio Aguero, and after surviving a couple more scares went on to double their advantage through midfielder Javi Garcia shortly before half-time.

Demba Ba halved the deficit with a header early in the second period and Newcastle pushed on for an equaliser, with Papiss Cisse spurning a great chance to draw level.

And Alan Pardew's side were made to pay as Yaya Toure netted from close range late on to put the result beyond any doubt.
