Pic Special: Jungle FeverGeordie boys Ant and Dec are currently in Australia filming the new series of I'm A Celebrity (Get Me Out Of Here!) - but on Thursday, the jungle came to Newcastle United's Training Centre. A whole host of reptiles, snakes and creepy crawlies were brought to the Club's Benton base as part of an Australian Day in the canteen. There was even a Bush Tucker Trial between young defender Michael Riley and groundsman Mick Curran, with six challenges set for the pair. While blindfolded, they had to find a star in a bucket of beatles, pull another star from in amongst some wriggling grubs, pull a star from underneath a tarantula, have a snake wrapped around their necks, take a bite out of what they were told were kangaroo testicles (although they were actually pork balls) and find a star in a pot of what they were led to believe were live maggots - which were in fact pearl barley. Brave Curran completed all six - but Walker lad Riley didn't dare do any of them! Arachnids 'R' Us and Dragons Den Exotics brought in the creatures, including a skin shed by a tarantula which Steven Taylor delighted in using to chase team-mates and staff around. He scared Medical Secretary Kate Dunn in the dining room, then ran after a petrified Andy Woodman before bursting in on Tim Krul as he received a massage. Chef Liz Hornsby explained: "The gaffer likes to hold theme days once a month and this one was originally for Curtis (Good) - although unfortunately he was away on international duty! "Then 'I'm A Celebrity' came on telly and I thought it was a good idea to expand it - but I didn't realise Woody was so scared of spiders!" Giving nufc.co.uk this exclusive gallery was Ian Horrocks. |
