There were goals galore at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Thursday night, but Newcastle United were forced to settle for a share of the spoils from their Europa League fixture at Club Brugge.

The hosts got off to a flying start and were two up inside 19 minutes thanks to strikes from Ivan Trickovski and Jesper Jorgensen.

But United fought back and levelled things up before half-time through Vurnon Anita's stunning long-range volley and a neat Shola Ameobi finish.

Either side could have won it after the break, with Magpies goalkeeper Tim Krul making three excellent saves to keep Brugge at bay, while substitute Yohan Cabaye curled a free-kick against the crossbar at the other end.
