It was all-square at Anfield on Sunday, as Newcastle United travelled to Liverpool and came away with an impressive 1-1 draw.

Yohan Cabaye's first-half opener was cancelled out by Luis Suarez after the break, and the Magpies were forced to play the closing stages with ten men following a straight red card for captain Fabricio Coloccini.

United's recent record against the Reds on Merseyside makes dismal reading, but after weathering an early storm of pressure, Alan Pardew's side equipped themselves well and duly broke the deadlock when Cabaye fired home a delightful half-volley.

Inevitable Liverpool pressure followed and the hosts levelled midway through the second period when Suarez latched on to a long ball over the top, rounded Tim Krul and tapped home.

Both sides could have won it as chances came and went at either end, but after Coloccini's dismissal - for a late lunge on Suarez out on the touchline - it was Newcastle who defended superbly to prevent the Reds from snatching all three points.
