Newcastle United sit top of Group D in the Europa League thanks to a 1-0 win over Club Brugge on Thursday night.

Under the floodlights at St. James' Park, an angled drive from Gabriel Obertan handed the Magpies all three points at the expense of their Belgian opponents.

The winger struck home three minutes into the second half, while Papiss Cisse had a couple of great chances to get himself on the scoresheet, only to be denied by two brilliant saves.

Youngsters Sammy Ameobi, Shane Ferguson and Gael Bigirimana were all handed starts by manager Alan Pardew and caught the eye with impressive performances.
