Pic Special: Newcastle 3 Bordeaux 0

There had been many memorable European nights on Tyneside in Newcastle United's previous 123 matches in continental competition, and now another can be added to that list after the Magpies swept past Bordeaux on Thursday night.

The French side arrived at the Sports Direct Arena on top of Group D but Shola Ameobi put Alan Pardew's men ahead with a close-range finish from Gabriel Obertan's cross.

Five minutes before half-time, the returning Danny Simpson centred and Brazilian defender Henrique put past his own goalkeeper to make it 2-0 - although Papiss Cisse was lurking anyway.

And the Senegalese striker added his name to the scoresheet in the second half, putting the finishing touch to Shane Ferguson's inch-perfect cross as the Northern Ireland youngster continues to impress.

Capturing all the action for nufc.co.uk were Club Photographers Ian Horrocks and Serena Taylor.
