Less than an hour after confirming his move from Ajax to Newcastle, Vurnon Anita was straight into action as he trained with his new team-mates ahead of Saturday's season opener against Tottenham Hotspur.

The midfielder's presence certainly lifted the players around him as Alan Pardew led a competitive session which saw the likes of Papiss Cisse, Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote involved.

Cisse, Ben Arfa and Cabaye were all rested for the friendly at Cardiff while Tiote came off as a precaution in the same game but all have a chance of being involved against Spurs, although Alan Pardew confirmed that Cabaye and Ben Arfa remain doubtful.
