Pic Special: Digging In

The final whistle had barely sounded following Sunday's final home game of the season against Manchester City before work started to dig up the current Sports Direct Arena pitch and replace it in time for next season and the Olympic games.

Thursday, 26th July is the date of the first Olympic football match at the stadium and the new term will follow soon afterwards, so time is of the essence and groundsman Andrew Tully and his team have not wasted a second.

Once the current surface is completely removed and flattened, lush new grass will be allowed to grow in its place so that the Magpies once again have one of the very best pitches in the top flight.

Pitching in with the camera was Dan King, who provided this exclusive gallery for nufc.co.uk, and nufcTV subscribers can watch an access-all-areas video later this week.
