The Magpies slipped to their heaviest defeat of the season against a sublime Tottenham Hotspur side who never looked back after going 2-0 up inside six minutes.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto gave Spurs the lead before Louis Saha netted on his full debut for the North Londoners - against his old club.

Saha scored again before Niko Kranjcar made it four before half-time. And Emmanuel Adebayor, who had set up all four, then got his own name on the scoresheet in the second half.
