Pic Special: Memorial Garden Opened

On Sunday, ahead of Newcastle's final match of the 2010/11 season, a memorial garden was opened in the shadow of St. James' Park to honour Sir Bobby Robson.

The club's Managing Director Derek Llambias, manager Alan Pardew and assistant manager John Carver - who was also Sir Bobby's assistant during his time at Newcastle - attended the ceremony, as did Lady Elsie Robson and Magpies legend Peter Beardsley, who played under the late, great manager for England.

Five carved stones, each representing an era of Sir Bobby's life, were unveiled at the garden, which Newcastle City Council and NE1 Ltd hope will provide a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Sir Bobby, who died in July 2009, listed West Bromwich Albion among his clubs during his playing career and it was fitting that visiting Baggies fans joined Newcastle supporters in witnessing the grand opening.

And club photographer Ian Horrocks was there too.
