Newcastle won for the first ever time at the DW Stadium thanks to Shola Ameobi's goal, and it was a deserved victory for Alan Pardew's side, who could have ran out more convincing winners.

Steve Harper made a return in goal, playing for the first time since injury at Everton in September, while Peter Lovenkrands partnered Ameobi with Andy Carroll injured, and the three points took United up to tenth.
