Jake Dunn with Newcastle players and coaches

Ten-year-old Jake Dunn was a hero among his classmates after winning a Magpies Members 'Money-Can't-Buy' competition of a coaching session at Newcastle's training ground on Wednesday.

The youngster from Blyth was able to bring his entire class from Bede Academy to United's base in Benton, where they received a coaching session from Assistant Manager John Carver, First-Team Coach Steve Stone and Academy coaches Dave Watson and Kevin Richardson, while Peter Beardsley also lent a hand.

And first-team players Steven Taylor and Peter Lovenkrands were also on hand to show them some drills - as well and handing over a signed shirt to lucky Jake.

The youngsters took part in dribbling and shooting exercises under the guidance of the coaching staff and Taylor and Lovenkrands before competing in a mini World Cup tournament.

And former England international Watson said: "It was really good and the kids burnt off an awful lot of energy running around!

"They enjoyed it and it's good for them to be able to come into the first-team's training ground and mingle with one or two of the players.

"It was great for the kids and it's a day they'll remember, and there were some very good kids - so you never know, we might be seeing them again not too many years away from now!"

Magpie Member Jake was chosen at random in a Magpies competition on nufc.co.uk and his mother, Joanne, said: "A big thank you to all the coaches, Steven Taylor and Peter Lovenkrands for the amazing opportunity for Jake and his class mates. They all had a fantastic time - definitely a day to remember!

"Jake is a massive Newcastle United supporter and has been a member of the junior Magpies since he was three years old. He loves entering the competitions on the NUFC website and has been lucky enough to win some fantastic prizes in the past.

"Jake's highlight was playing in front of all the coaches, and even scoring a couple of goals in front of Peter Beardsley! He loves the signed shirt he received and will be wearing it tonight at his football training. You have made one football fan very happy!"

Class teacher Andrea Jeffrey added: "All of the children had been so excited to come and the other classes have been so jealous.

"But we were the lucky class and we were really pleased to be here. We've had a fantastic day and Jake has been the absolute superstar among the school."
