Adam Armstrong

Adam Armstrong bagged a hat-trick as Newcastle United's second string came from behind to run out 5-2 winners over Reading in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League on Monday.

The Royals raced into an early two-goal advantage through Rob Dicke and Conor Shaughnessy, but Peter Beardsley's side responded fantastically.

Armstrong halved the deficit before Sammy Ameobi nodded home from a corner to draw the Magpies level.

Midfielder Gael Bigirimana then fired against the woodwork, before Armstrong grabbed his second goal of the afternoon to edge United ahead.

Hatem Ben Arfa made it 4-2 with a fine individual effort, before Armstrong put the result beyond any doubt with time ticking away as he slotted in number five.
