Adam Armstrong made it five goals in five Barclays Under-21 Premier League appearances with his late winner at the Hawthorns.

The 16-year-old struck with eight minutes to go in a helter-skelter affair on Monday afternoon which also saw Haris Vuckic net a brace as Director of Football Joe Kinnear watched from the stands.

Vuckic was one of five players in Willie Donachie and Peter Beardsley's line-up to boast senior experience with the Magpies and one of them, Gael Bigirimana, gave United an eighth minute lead with a 35-yard drive which crashed in off the underside of the crossbar.

Two goals in the space of 60 seconds from Alex Jones and Mani O'Sullivan turned the game on its head but Vuckic's first of the day, in the 25th minute, restored parity as he slotted home with a left-footed finish.

Morgan Ferrier gave the Baggies a half-time lead but Vuckic got his second in the 75th minute as he expertly curled a free-kick over the Baggies' wall.

Then Armstrong won the match with a close-range finish after Vuckic's cut-back. Jak Alnwick denied George Thorne late on but the Magpies managed to hold on for their second win of the campaign.
