Kilmarnock 2 (Slater, Trialist)
Newcastle United Under-21s 0
Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock scored two second half goals to edge out Newcastle's under-21 side at Rugby Park.
Both sides had chances but Craig Slater gave them the lead before one of several Killie trialists added a late clincher.
Adam Campbell spearheaded the Magpies attack but it was the hosts who had the first opening when Dylan Pooler headed wide, then William Gros nodded off target.
Good work from Campbell saw him create a chance for himself but Antonio Reguero gathered comfortably before Steven Logan volleyed over.
In the second half, Caoimhin Bonner fired over then, at the other end, Romain Amalfitano twice came close from distance.
But the home side struck in the 70th minute when Slater took advantage of a defensive mistake to slot past Jak Alnwick and United were denied a quickfire equaliser when Jonathyn Quinn met Amalfitano's cross but saw Reguero save superbly.
Another Slater effort was just too high but, as Newcastle searched for a leveller, Kilmarnock broke from a corner and one of the trialists lofted home with a neat finish.
