Norwich City Under-21s 1 (Heath)
Newcastle United Under-21s 2 (Bigirimana, Gosling)

Two of Newcastle United's senior stars showed their quality as the Magpies went top of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League Tier Two table with victory over Norwich City.

Gael Bigirimana scored his first second-string goal of the season while Dan Gosling was the matchwinner as Willie Donachie and Peter Beardsley's men came from behind at the Canaries' Colney training ground.

Harrison Heath gave the hosts a 15th minute lead after a strong run and cross from Jamar Loza before Michael Richardson came close for United.

But Bigirimana curled home a fine free-kick in the 27th minute to level matters, although Aaron Wickham hit the crossbar after bursting into the box three minutes before the break.

Adam Campbell shot wide at the start of the second half before skipper Gosling had a strike ruled out for offside, but the former England under-21 midfielder was not to be denied.

With nine minutes left, Campbell drilled in a cross and Gosling powerfully headed beyond Jed Steer, who then saved from James Tavernier's long-range strike.

Newcastle are now unbeaten in ten games at this level and climbed above Reading in the table. A win at home to Bolton on Friday night would see United win the league and progress into the end-of-season play-offs.
