Norwich City Under-18s 2 (Cole, Fox)
Newcastle United Under-18s 1 (Broccoli)

Stefan Broccoli scored on his Newcastle United under-18s debut, but Dave Watson's side lost to FA Youth Cup holders Norwich City on Saturday.

Ex-Arsenal junior Broccoli was one of six schoolboys named in the Magpies' starting XI in their penultimate match of the season at the Canaries' Colney training ground.

The hosts took the lead just before half time when Oliver Cole beat 15-year-old goalkeeper Paul Woolston after Newcastle failed to clear their lines.

But the diminutive Broccoli - who impressed in a holding midfield role - equalised six minutes after the restart as he closed down goalkeeper Ben Killip's short goal kick and rolled the ball into an empty net.

The Canaries keeper atoned for his part in that goal with a good save to keep out Joe Kerridge's free-kick, however, before Nathan Fox scored what proved to be the winner after 72 minutes.

He sent a powerful header into the net after connecting with a free kick.

Kyle Cameron almost levelled as he rounded the keeper but couldn't convert from a narrow angle, then Broccoli lofted just wide.

United complete their Barclays Under-18 Premier League campaign with a rearranged game at Manchester City next weekend.
