At Little Benton
Newcastle United Under-18s 2 (Olley, Heardman)
Blackburn Rovers Under-18s 1 (Wall)
On a windy afternoon at Little Benton, Newcastle's youngsters made it back-to-back wins and gained revenge for December's 4-1 defeat at Blackburn.
Greg Olley scored the winner that day - his first goal of the season - and took just six minutes to grab his second.
Turkey youth international Daniel Barlaser and midfielder Liam Smith combined to tee up Olley, who was impressive throughout.
And he made another key contribution shortly before half time as he picked out Tom Heardman with a great through ball. The big striker still had plenty to do, but finished well to make it 2-0.
Heardman nearly got another moments later but his effort was cleared off the line, and United were relieved to see Freddie Woodman produce a fine save from Sam Joel ten minutes into the second period.
But Dave Watson's side were in control, and almost scored a third in comical circumstances as goalkeeper Marcus Beauchamp's clearance caught the wind and almost sailed into his own goal.
Luke Wall pulled one back late on but Newcastle saw out the final few minutes.
