Newcastle United Under-18s 3 (Quinn, Booth, Heardman)
Liverpool Under-18s 3 (Kent, Sinclair, Wilson)

Games between Newcastle and Liverpool tend to be exciting affairs and this Barclays Under-18 Premier League clash at Little Benton was no different.

The Magpies, looking to make it three wins in a row, surged into a two goal lead before the Reds dragged themselves back into the match and then went in front themselves.

But substitute Tom Heardman scored with his first touch to give Dave Watson's side a point, which was the least they deserved.

United started strongly, with Jonathyn Quinn sending a looping header wide then side-footing off target after good work from right-back Jamie Sterry.

Daniel Barlaser came close after superb wing play from Rolando Aarons then, after visiting wideman Sergi Canos had forced Jonathan Mitchell into a fine save, Quinn headed wide then saw a shot blocked after a strong run from Callum Roberts before Sterry fired the wrong side of the post.

But, after Harry Wilson squandered a good chance for the Reds, Quinn finally got his goal as he drilled home from just inside the box.

Roberts saw an effort fly just wide, then a free kick just over but from his resulting corner, Macauley Booth powered home.

However, Ryan Kent headed home from close range just before the break to give the Merseysiders hope and Mitchell thwarted Jerome Mitchell at the beginning of the second period.

The electrifiying Aarons then saw a shot saved by Andrew Firth at the other end, then after some majestic skill his shot crashed back off the woodwork.

But Liverpool equalised when Sinclair prodded home from Sam Hart's cross and, after Booth had cleared Conor Randall's shot off the line moments earlier, they made it 3-2 through Wilson's lob.

Heardman was then introduced in place of Roberts and he wasted no time in sending a thumping header into the net after connecting with Barlaser's perfect free-kick delivery.

Both sides pressed for a winner, with Quinn threatening for United and Will Marsh and Wilson coming close for Liverpool, but it finished all square.
