Newcastle United Under-18s 1 (Quinn)
Tottenham Hotspur U18s 2 (Harrison 2)

A late winner from Shayon Harrison consigned Newcastle United under-18s to a third straight defeat on Saturday morning.

Academy coach Dave Watson welcomed back Rolando Aarons, Callum Roberts, Jonathyn Quinn, Alex Gilliead and Olivier Kemen to his side and they matched their in-form visitors for the much of the match.

Spurs arrived on Tyneside with eight wins from their opening nine matches and led 1-0 through Harrison's 34th minute opener.

The young Magpies equalised through Quinn on the stroke of half-time and produced a spirited second-half performance.

United were unable to grab the second goal, however, and Harrison struck the eventual winner seven minutes from time.

After a tight and competitive opening third, it was Newcastle who created the first real chance of the game when Aarons forced two good saves just before the half-hour mark.

It was the visitors who struck first though, Anthony Georgiou reaching the byline and pulling back for Harrison who produced a clinical finish from ten yards out.

United were back in the game minutes before the break though as Quinn pounced on an error from Spurs defence and finished calmly.

After the break, Jamaica-born winger Aarons again caused the visitors problems, latching onto a Kemen pass but firing straight at Luke McGee ten minutes from time.

The miss again proved costly as Harrison collected a through ball and after seeing Jonathan Mitchell save his initial attempt, the striker fired home the rebound.

Newcastle pressed for a late equaliser with Quinn heading wide from Aarons' cross while a late corner saw everyone including goalkeeper Mitchell forward.

Watson's side were unable to force an equaliser, however, and remain second-bottom of table with two wins from ten league games.
