Newcastle United Under-18s 7 (Laidler 2, Heardman, Armstrong, Johnson, Drennan, Hall)
West Allotment Celtic 'A' 0
In their final warm-up match before the Milk Cup in Northern Ireland next week, Newcastle United's youngsters stormed to an impressive victory at Little Benton.
West Allotment Celtic, who play at nearby Whitley Park, sent an 'A' team made up of fringe players to the Magpies' Academy but despite battling gamely they were comprehensively beaten by Dave Watson's slick side.
Once Adam Laidler gave the hosts a tenth minute lead after linking up well with Adam Armstrong, the non-league outfit could not cope with Newcastle's pace, movement and energy and Laidler was only denied a second by a good save.
Tom Heardman was also thwarted by the West Allotment goalkeeper then lofted an effort just wide, but made no mistake just before the half-hour mark to make it 2-0.
And Laidler - who came to the Club's attention after attending a Newcastle United Foundation coaching course - added a third on the stroke of half-time with a superb run and emphatic finish.
The hugely talented Armstrong then scored an even better goal when he ghosted past a posse of green and white shirts before producing a thumping finish from the edge of the box and substitute Lewis Suddick and full-back Jamie Cobain both came close.
Louis Johnson had only been on the field for a few minutes when he made it 5-0 and, five minutes from the end of the 70-minute match, Ben Drennan scored perhaps the goal of the evening when he almost burst the net with a 30-yard piledriver.
There was still time for Johnson to hit the bar before Andy Hall wrapped up the scoring with an accurate low shot. He was in seventh heaven and so were Newcastle.
