Sunderland completed a derby double over Newcastle at Academy level as they hit the Magpies for six at Little Benton - despite the hosts going ahead.
Defender Lewis Aird, who only returned from a 13-month injury lay-off last month, scored his second goal of the season as he poked home the loose ball after Tom Heardman's tenth minute header from Jonathyn Quinn's cross was parried.
But that lead lasted less than two minutes as George Honeyman took the ball past Freddie Woodman and rolled home before the Black Cats ran riot with Callum Hope, Ross Holland and Mikael Mandron putting the Wearsiders 4-1 up at half-time.
United lost 4-2 at the Academy of Light in September but it was five just before the hour mark when Mandron finished from 18 yards. Martin Smith hit the bar with a penalty but in the final minute, Holland added a sixth goal.
It was a fourth straight loss for Dave Watson's side, who won the Premier Academy League Group D last term.
But of Saturday's side, only Aird, Alex Kitchen and Lee Desmond are in the second year of their scholarships while debutant Jake Fenton was one of five schoolboys to figure. The remaining six players involved were first-year scholars.
