FULL-TIME REPORT

NEWCASTLE United recorded their biggest home win of the season as Bolton Wanderers were beaten 3-1 at St. James' Park to extend caretaker boss Glenn Roeder's unbeaten record to six matches.

Both Emre and Kevin Nolan, via a Robbie Elliott deflection, had seen efforts hit the woodwork before Nolberto Solano broke the deadlock with an exquisite 25-yard free-kick in the 34th minute.

Skipper Alan Shearer then nodded a crucial second just seconds before half-time, netting goal number 202 of his Toon career from a Charles N'Zogbia cross.

Shola Ameobi fired in a third from close range in the 69th minute before Kevin Davies (71) cut the arrears.

It was only the second time the Magpies had scored three goals at home in the Premiership this term.

But the victory completed a superb seven days for the club that has seen the first team win twice, the Reserves triumph and the juniors move into the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup.

SECOND-HALF ACTION UPDATES

90min+2 - Albert Luque gets a booking for delaying Jussi Jaaskelainen from taking a free-kick.

90min - Referee Alan Wiley indicates four minutes of additional time will be played.

89min - Bolton are still battling, but when Gary Speed sets up a shooting chance for Ricardo Vaz Te from the left, the sub can only find the side netting.

87min - Kevin Nolan thinks he has cut the arrears to 3-2, but referee Alan Wiley spots that the visiting skipper has used his hand after Shay Given blocked his first effort.

83min - Alan Shearer shoots over at the near post from a Nolberto Solano right-wing corner. Before play can resume, Shola Ameobi is an 84th minute departure with Albert Luque getting a late run-out.

82min - Glenn Roeder makes a change for United. Off goes Emre to great applause and on comes Lee Bowyer.

78min - Bolton are again probing, looking for a second goal. Henrik Pedersen provides a useful cross from the left, but Kevin Davies volleys well wide. There is a respite at the other end when Abdoulaye Faye obstructs Celestine Babayaro to concede a free-kick on the corner of the penalty area. Referee Alan Wiley then angers the majority of the crowd as he brings play to a halt and books Alan Shearer.

76min - Bolton are trying to stage a late rally and Peter Ramage has to concede a corner from Ricardo Vaz Te, which Shola Ameobi then heads away at the near post.

73min - Bolton make their third and final change as Ricardo Vaz Te replaces Hidetoshi Nakata. Bolton then have a great chance to further reduce the arrears when a ball drops kindly for an unmarked Henrik Pedersen inside the penalty area, but Shay Given races out to make a crucial block. In their next attack, Vaz te volleys high and wide - but clearly Sam Allardyce's team haven't given up this game just yet.

71min - BOLTON GOAL (3-1): Wanderers quickly reduce the deficit. Stelios works the ball back to Ricardo Gardner who crosses deep from the left to the far post, where Radhi Jaidi outjumps Shola Ameobi and Kevin Davies stabs the ball into the Gallowgate End net from close range.

69min - NEWCASTLE GOAL (3-0): Nolberto Solano's right-wing corner is worked back to him by Charles N'Zogbia. The young Frenchman then has a cross cleared as far as Emre, who drives the ball goalwards from 20 yards. It lands at the feet of Shola Ameobi eight yards out and he controls the ball before rifling in from close range.

68min - Scott Parker omce again breaks up a Bolton move with a great tackle on Stelios and Newcastle break quickly as Alan Shearer hooks a forward pass to Shola Ameobi. The ball comes back to the skipper and his fizzing 20-yarder is tipped behind for a corner.

63min - Alan Shearer wins a free-kick on United's left near the corner flag. When Nolberto Solano swings the ball over to the back post, Jussi Jaaskelainen punches it behind off the head of Shola Ameobi.

60min - Referee Alan Wiley reaches for his notebook for the first time as Kevin Davies gets a yellow card for a foul on Celestine Babayaro.

59min - Lovely skill by Charles N'Zogbia leaves Gary Speed with no option but to foul the young Frenchman and concede a free-kick. Nolberto Solano's cross into the box is claimed by Jussi Jaaskelainen.

56min - Bolton load up the box again as Scott Parker trips Kevin Nolan. United, however, quickly turn defence into attack as Emre and CharlesN'Zogbia launch a counter-attack.

50min - Joey O'Brien has to concede a left-wing corner as Charles N'Zogbia makes a dangerous burst into the box. Radhi Jaidi heads Nolberto Solano's first effort behind. The second is cleared back to the Peruvian, and Hidetoshi Nakata gives away a third flag-kick. This time Emre's right-sided delivery is claimed by Jussi Jaaskelainen.

49min - Scott Parker dispossesses Hidetoshi Nakata to set up a shooting chance for midfield colleague Emre, but his 25 yard effort drifts wide.

46min - Bolton are first to threaten as they win a free-kick on the right. Gary Speed delivers to the near post, but Shay Given punches the ball away and Charles N'Zogbia completes the clearance.

Bolton make another change at the break. On comes Henrik Pedersen, who takes over from Bruno N'Gotty.

FIRST-HALF ACTION UPDATES

The half-time whistle is met by great cheers as United head for the dressing rooms having doubled their lead in the dying seconds.

45min - NEWCASTLE GOAL (2-0): Great play in the engine room from Scott Parker and Emre sees the ball worked to Celestine Babayaro on the left. He finds his colleague Charles N'Zogbia, who crosses to the back post where skipper Alan Shearer nets goal number 202 of his Toon career with a header. Jussi Jaaskelainen actually gets his right hand to the ball, but he cannot prevent it dropping over the line at the Gallowgate End net as the Magpies double their lead.

41min - Charles N'Zogbia sees the ball break kindly for him in the inside left channel, but just as he shoots for goal, Bruno N'Gotty makes a great tackle to concede a corner.

39min - Referee Alan Wiley penalises Jean Alain Boumsong for a foul on Kevin Davies on halfway and Bolton load up the box for a free-kick. However, Shola Ameobi and Scott Parker do well to clear the threat.

34min - NEWCASTLE GOAL (1-0) - Radhi Jaidi concedes a free-kick in a dangerous position for fouling Shola Ameobi. Nolberto Solano crosses to the left to take it, and it's another piece of Peruvian magic from the midfielder as he curls a beautiful effort past Jussi Jaaskelainen, making it three goals at St. James' in the last two home games for him.

33min - There is another great chance for Newcastle to open the scoring. Patient possession play suddenly opens up Bolton as Charles N'Zogbia goes clear down the left. He advances into the box and picks out an unmarked Shola Ameobi - but the big striker miskicks horribly and the chance is gone.

29min - More United pressure as Nolberto Solano and Scott Parker tee up Peter Ramage to deliver a testing right-wing cross. Alan Shearer gets above Jussi Jaaskelainen to win the ball, but no one can take advantage of his knockdown.

28min - Abdoulaye Faye tries his luck from fully 30 yards, when he picks up on a ball only half cleared by Charles N'Zogbia. But the Senegal star's low drive is always travelling wide. At the other end, N'Zogbia crosses to the near post from the left, but Jussi Jaaskelainen collects ahead of Shola Ameobi.

24min - This time it's Newcastle who have the woodwork to thank for being on level terms. Hidetoshi Nakata's left-wing cross to the back post is expertly nodded down by Gary Speed into the path of Kevin Nolan. The visiting skipper volleys down into the turf and as the ball comes up it strikes the head of Robbie Elliott and diverts against Shay Given's left-hand post, with the Magpies' keeper totally helpless having begun to dive to his right.

18min - Only the woodwork stops Emre from giving Newcastle the lead. Good pressing by Scott Parker sees the ball fall for the Turk 20 yards from goal, and his dipping left-foot effort beats the dive of Jussi Jaaskelainen, but strikes the base of the keeper's right-hand post and bounces away to safety. It is a lucky escape for the visitors.

17min - Bolton boss Sam Allardyce has to make an early change and Jay-Jay Okocha disappears to be replaced by Hidetoshi Nakata.

14min - Robbie Elliott's diagonal pass forward is flicked on by Alan Shearer into the path of Nolberto Solano. The Peruvian swings over a dangerous cross from the right, but it's headed away by Joey O'Brien.

12min - Another attack by Bolton begins with Jay-Jay Okocha spraying a great crossfield pass out to Kevin Nolan on the visitors' right. His cross into the box is met by the run of Gary Speed, but again it's another glancing header that goes wide of Shay Given's goal.

9min - Bolton win their first corner when Gary Speed picks out Ricardo Gardner, and his left-wing cross cannons off Peter Ramage and goes behind. The Magpies clear their lines through Celestine Babayaro, but when Wanderers recycle possession and Jay-Jay Okocha swings in a cross from the left, Radhi Jaidi heads wide as the ball skims off the top of his head.

8min - Shola Ameobi gets the better of an exchange with Bruno N'Gotty on United's right, but his cross intended for Alan Shearer is headed clear by Radhi Jaidi.

4min - Newcastle force another right-wing corner. This time Nolberto Solano cuts infield from the right and is tackled by former Magpie Gary Speed just as he prepares to shhot from 20 yards. Emre's flag-kick is headed behind by Kevin Davies for another corner on the opposite flank, which is delivered by Solano before referee Alan Wiley blows up for a foul by Jean Alain Boumsong .

2min - The game's first real attack sees Nolberto Solano charge down an attempted clearance from Bruno N'Gotty, and Jussi Jaaskelainen has to race from his box to concede a corner as Shola Ameobi tries to capitalise on the loose ball. From Emre's right-wing corner the ball drops to Jean Alain Boumsong, but it gets caught under his feet preventing the Frenchman getting in a shot and eventually it goes behind for a goal-kick.

Bolton Wanderers, wearing their all-white kit, get the game underway attacking the Leazes End.

TEAM NEWS

ALAN Shearer returned after missing the last three games for Newcastle's clash with Bolton Wanderers at St. James' Park on Saturday.

Bowyer had to settle for a place on the bench, and whe was joined by Spanish international Albert Luque who was also recalled to the squad. Matty Pattison was the player who made way to allow Luque to return.
