MATCH REPORT

GEORDIE striker Andy Carroll marked his full home debut with his first goal for Newcastle United to claim a point for Joe Kinnear's men in an entertaining 2-2 draw with West Ham.

The visitors had came from behind to take a winning position but were denied the three points when Carroll notched with 12 minutes left on the clock.

That was after an end-to-end affair in which Michael Owen (19) fired the Magpies in front with a low strike from the edge of the area for his 10th of the season.

The lead lasted just ten minutes and Craig Bellamy drew the Hammers level with a chipped finish past Shay Given after being slipped in on goal by Scott Parker.

And Gianfranco Zola's side seized the advantage on 55 minutes when Carlton Cole lashed into the roof of the net after capitalising upon space in behind the United backline.

But the day belonged to Big Andy and the 6ft 4ins frontman headed home from Damien Duff's centre at the Gallowgate End with a goal which sees Newcastle climb to 11th in the table.

SECOND-HALF ACTION (click refresh for latest)

90+2min - Enrique slips a ball into space for the over-lapping Gutierrez to latch on, the Argentine checks inside Neill but is denied a shot on goal by the sliding Upson who turns behind for a corner. It's worked short and when the ball is delivered Carroll's looping header falls for Owen who heads over from the angle of the six-yard area to signal the last action of an entertaining game - full-time.

There will be three minutes added time.

88min - Jonas darts infield from the left and fizzes a low ball into the near post, Duff is arriving at pace but Upson slides to nick the ball away from the Irishman.

86min - Hayden Mullins replaces Mark Noble.

85min - Carlton Cole looks to have stolen a yard on Sebastien Bassong but the French defender does well to recover and blocks the striker's snap shot at the expense of a corner. There's a nervy moment from Noble's centre as heads challenge inside the six-yard area but it's Andy Carroll who climbs highest to win and Bassong completes the clearance.

81min - David Di Michele replaces Craig Bellamy who leaves the field to a chorus of boos from the home crowd.

78min - NEWCASTLE GOAL (2-2): ANDY CARROLL has done it! The Geordie striker marks his full home debut with a goal as he heads Damien Duff's lofted centre past a leaden-footed Robert Green from 12 yards and United are back on level terms.

76min - Luis Boa Morte replaces Jack Collison.

72min - The hosts win a corner on the right which is delivered by Guthrie, the ball drops to Owen on the penalty spot who unleashes a half-volley into the back of Collins and West Ham clear.

68min - United are beginning to take control and win a free-kick right on the edge of the penalty area as Duff is felled by Behrami. It's worked short to N'Zogbia, the French ace has a crack but the ball ricochets off a West Ham shirt and clear of the danger zone, Coloccini scampers to retrieve and delivers a whipped centre from the right which is sliced into his own net by Lucas Neill. However, the Magpie celebrations are short-lived as Alan Wiley adudges Steven Taylor to have fouled James Collins from the cross and the Hammers escape.

65min - N'Zogbia's low strike clatters off Collins and runs away for a corner. Guthrie's delivery is improved but Green claims underneath his crossbar.

62min - Charles N'Zogbia is coming on for Geremi.

59min - Again the hosts squander a chance to get back on level terms as Guthrie's flag-kick fails to beat the first man and West Ham clear.

58min - United have a corner but Geremi's ball has far too much height and the opportunity is wasted.

55min - WEST HAM GOAL (1-2): Herita Illunga's straight pump downfield drops in-behind the United backline and CARLTON COLE takes full advantage as he controls before lashing left-footed into the top corner from eight yards.

53min - The game is becomming increasingly stretched and Collison wins a corner on the right as his shot is deflected behind off the knee of Coloccini. Neill connects with Noble's out-swinger but his glancing header skids through bodies and away to the right-hand side of the penalty area, Bellamy retrieves possession and slides a low ball to the near post but Bassong is well positoned and clears.

50min - The hosts are under the cosh here and Given is well-positioned to keep out Noble's low strike after he was teed-up by Cole 12 yards from goal.

49min - Carlton Cole looks to bend the ball around Shay Given from the edge of the area but the United keeper reads the striker's intentions and shuffles his feet to save.

46min - The visitors are immediately on the offensive and Noble tries to spring Bellamy clear, Bassong is tracking his run and out-muscles the forward before clearing.

No changes during the break as United kick-off the second period.

FIRST-HALF ACTION

And there goes the whistle to signal the end of the opening period with Craig Bellamy having cancelled out Michael Owen's opener.

43min - United survive a real scare as Mark Noble beats the linesman's flag to race through on goal, the midfielder tries to slot the ball through the legs of Shay Given but it clips the Irishman's heel and runs wide, Craig Bellamy is racing onto the scraps but it's a narrow angle and his first-time shot nestles into the side-netting.

42min - Gutierrez is causing West Ham all sorts of problems down the left and from his forward run Michael Owen has a crack from range but draws his low effort well wide of Green's target.

39min - Big Andy is again in the thick of the action and United appeal for penalty as Lucas Neill barges into the back of the striker inside the area but Alan Wiley waves play on.

34min - Guthrie is impeded by Noble 25 yards from goal and United have a free-kick in a dangerous position. Geremi's low curler cannons off bodies to the feet of Gutierrez, the winger quickly works a yard for a shot and is unlucky to see his effort deflect off Bellamy and into the side-netting. Guthrie's high flag-kick is again plucked from the air by Green.

32min - Lucas Neill takes no chances in heading behind Damien Duff's lofted centre with Andy Carroll lurking. Guthrie crosses high but it's an easy one for Green to claim.

31min - This is end-to-end stuff and Damien Duff tries his luck from range but his stinging drive is well held by Robert Green.

29min - WEST HAM GOAL (1-1): United old boys Scott Parker and CRAIG BELLAMY combine with the former slipping in his Welsh team-mate who lifts the ball over Shay Given from eight yards to restore parity.

28min - Geremi again tries to find Owen with a deadball delivery from midway inside the Hammers half but Green comes to grasp inside the six-yard area.

26min - Andy Carroll should open his United scoring account after being picked out by Danny Guthrie at the far post but the frontman heads into the side-netting.

23min - Danny Guthrie is shown a yellow card as he slides and trips Scott Parker on halfway.

21min - West Ham win the game's first corner but Given claims from Noble's high delivery.

19min - NEWCASTLE GOAL (1-0): Jose Enrique slips a forward pass into the feet of MICHAEL OWEN who turns before advancing to the edge of the area where he drives a low shot into the bottom corner for his 10th of the season - great goal from the skipper.

15min - Bellamy, free at the far post, should score from Ilunga's deep cross but heads back into bodies inside the six-yard box and United clear.

13min - A patient build up from United should be rewarded with a goal but the foot of the post denies Michael Owen after he had burst onto a low Jonas Gutierrez cross and slid the ball past Robert Green - what a chance!

10min - Owen breaks through the centre and rolls the ball to the right to the supporting Duff, his first touch takes him wide and when the cross eventually comes West Ham have recovered enough bodies to block and clear.

8min - Shouts for a penalty go up from the home crowd as Carroll flashes a header from Duff's centre into the arm of Collins but Alan Wiley isn't interested and waves away the protests - it would've been harsh but you've seen them given.

6min - Geremi tries to find Owen from a deep free-kick but the Cameroon midfielder over-cooks his delivery and Green claims.

5min - Collison tries to work space for the shot on the edge of the area but is crowded out by black-and-white shirts and United clear.

2min - Owen searches out Carroll in space on the right and the young striker wastes no time in getting the ball onto his favoured left foot before cracking a 20-yard shot into James Collins with the deflected effort hacked clear by Upson.

It's a brisk afternoon on Tyneside as West Ham get the game underway.

TEAM NEWS

GEORDIE striker Andy Carroll makes his first start at St.James' Park and will partner skipper Michael Owen in attack.
