By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor
Newcastle United entertain Leeds United in the third round of the Capital One Cup at St. James' Park on Wednesday night.
The Magpies reached this stage with a 2-0 win away at Morecambe, while Leeds have seen off Chesterfield and Doncaster in previous stages.
The sides have not met in competitive action since January 2004, when Alan Shearer's solitary strike separated them. However, they played out a five-goal pre-season friendly two years ago.
Wednesday's match, the 92nd competitive game between the two teams, is the third time Newcastle and Leeds have met in the League Cup. On the two previous occasions, Leeds have progressed, in 1966/67 and 1982/83.

A WORD FROM BOTH CAMPS
Alan Pardew, Newcastle manager: "Our fans want to win a trophy, go to Wembley and see some silverware. And so do I, trust me. I've come very, very close before and I want to win something. We are putting out a strong side but I do need to look at one or two, to see if they can push to be starters in the first team. This will be a team that, I hope, makes up for a disappointing game on Saturday. I am still livid about that result so, make no mistake, we will be at the races on Wednesday night."
