Redheugh Header

Gateshead Redheugh 1957 old boys Alan Dowson and Colin Symm took a trip down memory lane last Sunday as they opened the new 3G football pitch.

The new pitch has been funded by the Premier League Facilities Fund and supported by Newcastle United Foundation. The facility will now be home to 20 Redheugh teams and 300 children and young people on a weekly basis. Newcastle United Foundation will also be running a Friday night Kicks project plus holiday soccer schools on the new all-weather pitch.

Alan Dowson, who has represented Millwall, Fulham, Bradford City and Darlington in the Football League, joined Colin Symm, ex Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland and Lincoln City midfielder in returning to their youth club to unveil the new facility.

Newcastle United Foundation kicked-off the football fun by leading a 90 minute session for four of the Redheugh teams, with the help of Premier League Kicks volunteers and Redheugh coaching staff.

The grand opening in Gateshead is just one of 30 venues opening across the country in a nationwide launch, all supported by the Premier League Facilities Fund.
